Very sobering assessment of R9R.

Gasper on Rondo - For Rondo Lovers and Haters:
Cabutan;
First, thanks for the link. I don't read everything about the C's on boston.com everyday, and this was a great article. To quote Pud "a sobering assessment."
That last part about Doc & Danny's evolving relationship/attitude toward BBD vis a vis Rondo, says it all. The coach & GM, if they haven't already, had better give him a real good "heads up" about what they expect from him and where they expect the Celtics to be as a team this year and in the next 3-5 years.
Rondo can be a part of it or be a part of a trade to help make it happen.

"Pierce grew out of his peevishness and into his role as a leader." Really? I admit he is a great player. He can get his shot without Rondo's help whenever he makes up his mind. The problem is that he mails it in sometimes and pouts when the ball doesn't come his way. Lately, he hasn't been playing like the captain of this team. But, no one dares criticize Pierce. Rondo is not the most mature guy in the league, but Pierce isn't the best role model either.

Pierce is a good FT and 3pt shooter. Every time Pierce gets the ball he commands a double team.
When Rondo has the ball, his defender doesn't even try to stop him from shooting.
Both Pierce and Rondo are not ideal role models. But Pierce is one of the best Celtic players in Celtic history. I mean you don't surpass Larry Bird in career points if you're not that good.

I agree. I said he is a great player. Everyone is dumping on Rondo because he did a stupid thing the other night. Look at Pierce's expression every time he gets bumped. Even last year in the playoffs, didn't Pierce earn 2 technicals in a few minutes and was tossed out of the game? Yes, he was. A great role model for your young point guard. And then we have KG (formerly a great player) who is the best trash talker in the league. Is he Rondo's role model? In Response to

Rondo didn't learn his problems from Pierce and KG.
Here:
With a highly stressed Rupp Arena crowd on its feet, Rondo veered from the center of the court to the left side, where it looked like he would execute a dribble handoff with teammate Ramel Bradley. On the other side of the court, clutch shooter Patrick Sparks was curling to the top of the key for what looked like an open shot.
Rondo ignored both options. Instead, he kept his dribble alive, spun away from his defender in front of the Kentucky bench and let fly with a 3-pointer.
This was not what coach Tubby Smith had drawn up in the timeout huddle just seconds earlier -- Rondo completely disregarded it. And in the end, it did not matter. The notoriously sketchy outside shooter swished the sucker with a second left for the win.
That moment from January 2006 pretty well summed up the Rondo-Smith relationship for two rocky seasons in Lexington, Ky. Smith couldn't control his talented-but-headstrong point guard. He couldn't win without him, either.

He surpassed him in points because he has played longer....Pierce is not in the conversation with Bird in terms of greatness.

Of course not. They just reinforce them. And, by the way, I love the C's and just am amazed people want to run Rondo out of town. If Rondo had horses to run with, he would probably average 15 assists per game. Age and injuries are more responsible for their record than Rondo's immaturity.

CPP is in pretty rarefied company though. Few will ever compare with Bird... you are correct... but PP is in the tier below.
That said, CPP is a serious student of the game and a 1st ballot HOF.
By comparison, R9R is a light weight and a dilettante who will likely leave little to no mark on this franchise other than an assist record.

Rondo's immaturity is why we are stuck at 17 banners instead of 19.

Williams is up there with Paul, so you're right when you talk about how many trade scenarios are being discussed concerning him.
Concerning us, of course, the other factor is when Doc & Danny reach a final decision concerning Rondo & whether he stays with the Celtics. I imagine there are quite a few scenarios they've put together there also.

Are you serious? KG's decline after sustaining an injury the year after the championship is THE reason we are stuck at 17.

Also, if Ray doesn't hurt himself in game 2 against the Lakers he deosn't throw up bricks for the remainder of the series. And if Perk doesn't go down in game 6, the results might have been different. How is Rondo to blame?

Yeah, but it's not like Pierce surpassed Bird when Pierce was no longer a great player. Pierce is still going strong and will have 2 more years to pile up the points.
All I'm saying is Pierce is already a hall of famer.
Rondo hasn't even made 3rd team All-NBA yet. All the All-Star PGs this year, at some point in their careers, already made it to the All-NBA team.
Larry Bird is my all-time favorite player. No way Pierce is on the same level with Bird. But there's also no way that Rondo is already on the same "greatness" with Pierce at this point in time.

That's not true.
When was the last time a running team won a championship?
Every starting PG that won a championship, besides Rondo, the last 12 years were all good FT shooters and good outside shooters.
The first thing you teach a young boy who wants to play basketball is how to shoot. There's just no excuse for being a bad FT shooter when you're not a big man.

Rondo is Mr. Brick Shot, he's a bad shooter on FTs and outside of 15 feet.
Rondo is anti-clutch, he disappears in the 4th qtr of games.
When was the last time you saw Rondo hit a game winning shot?
WE CAN'T PLAY 4 VS. 5 BASKETBALL IN THE 4TH QTR!
