If Danny builds it they we will come.

Our best option moving forward is to take the picks we have and draft the best players that fall to us.

Love does not win us a title now. We have a opportunity to build now and have plenty Cap space over the next 2 years that will allow us to sign a free agent that makes sense that can help us win now when that time comes. 9 draft picks over next 5 years. If we trade Rondo that could be 10 picks. We have been in salary cap hell for some time. Money has been main reason we don’t sign big name free agents. If we build with youth and they show promise and we have cap space the big names will come.

No, it is much more fun to design endless number of trades that will bring a bunch of all-star veterans here in a few months.  Anything is possible as someone has said before since we were able to get him once.

That is certainly your opinion.  Hope for catching lightening in a bottle.  Out of the 9 picks dream that you can find 2-3 studs, that fit together, and you can get them fast enough to get them signed long term before you lose the first one.

An alternative is to use those assets differently, and make trades for established players you know are good/great.  You may have to use 2 picks to get one of those players, but with 9 picks you could pick up 3-4 all star type players, maybe 2 superstars, and 2 fringe allstars.  All with trades.

There are even hybrid options using a mix of draft, FA, and trades.  Imagine that.  Everyone else is not stupid.  There is more than one way to win in this league.

OKC hit lightening in a bottle with 3-4 just incredible draft picks in a short period.  SA hit the franchise player, and supported it with some very solid late round picks over an extended period.  Miami bought their way to the top.  There are many options.  Here is hope for an exciting week in the NBA.

I agree that the Celts will have to build through the draft, and trading Rondo should be part of that. But it will take many years to see if anybody we draft will be good enough to lure free-agents here. Money is not the only problem that has plagued the Celtics in their (failed) quest for decent free agents over the years. Weather, taxes, and a poor nightlife in Boston holds more weight to these young jet setters than people really want to admit. The only way to overcome these problems is by offering guys a place that will guarantee them wins.  It will be a long road to get the Celtics to that point by way of the draft.

This is a great point.  These players today are so focused on instant gratification that losing top picks at the end of their rookie contract is becoming a serious worry.  Hopefully Brad Stevens is so likable that it offsets the current trend of young guys thinking they deserve a prebuilt championship ready team (AKA the easy way).

Except the Celtics historically have not had problems hanging on to their star players.  That is a false proposition to me.  Boston is a good sports town, good players who have played well here are well appreciated and revered.  Not true for many other cities where this problem may exist.  And I am not saying anything about how hard it is sometimes to get good players here.

just my humble opinion, but I'd rather build my core via trade/FA.

Each move/trade should be taken for its own merit.  Like you said, there is no one way to get there.  Getting a big star is very hard either way, catching lightning in a bottle can be used to described trading for one as well.

Rather have Melo, Love, and a vet center plus Rondo or whatever is left.  Livingston would be a good pick up.

Just a reminder that the Celtics have not made a draft selection in the top 3 since 1986, if I remember correctly.

In other words, don't hold your breath.
