If Garnett retires, will his $ count against the cap?

If Garnett retires, will his $ count against the cap?

If Pierce is traded or bought out, that more than likely leads to Garnett retiring. If KG does retire, will his contract for 13-14 count against the cap? If not, could P2 be traded to Atlanta for Josh Smith and then make a run at Dwight Howard? Maybe have to shave some dead weight in Courtney Lee, Terry and or Bass? Is this doable?

kg has to file his retirement papers and then it comes off the books....he can say i retire and still collect on the rest of his contract...he has to file that is the main thing.

U can't be serious about Howard. He is a team killer. And he is not that good.

Let's be fair to Dwight the clown. Jimmy Buss is the epitome of incompetence and the total opposite of leadership.

If Dwight becomes a Celtic then he'll be our clown.

    i don't want it...don't need clowns..we need basketball players.

He was probably the second best Celtic after Rondo got hurt. If he retires the Celtics have no 5 on the roster other Melo. It would be painful to watch.

Howard is not a player you want to sign if you plan to win anything. You would be better off giving Bynum the cash and hope he stays healthy.

    Exactly!

We need a lottery pick. The only way to do that is to be "painful to watch".

With or without KG, the Celts will never win a championship next season.

Just playing for the 8th seed is a waste of time!

Thank you - A. Wiggens is worth a year of pain! He is the real deal! If the Cs dont get him, at least they tried, versus make the playoffs as an 8th seed - and quickly shown the door

It is not worth it to tank because of the lottery. The best way to build has always been through trades. Unless you draft a Duncan or Kobe the draft is just too much of a crap shoot to build, especially with a team willing to spend to the cap. You also wouldn't want to waist the assets you have now namely Jeff Green and Rondo the next 5 years. The problem with this team is the backcourt and another scorer. Why dump Green and Rondo and make you find 5 plauets instead of 3?

To your previous point, if he is done than he isn't making the Celtic's any better. Make up your mind.

Re: If Garnett retires, will his $ count against the cap?

I believe with Doc coming back they will stay the course as much as possible. Doc wouldn't be coming back if he didn't know that PP and KG were coming back. I believe the plan is to get Rondo healthy, get Sully healthy and present the team they expected to have last year play together this year. Draft a rookie, get Melo some minutes.

If things aren't going right by the trade deadline, Ainge will unload PP, KG and possibly Rondo for expiring contracts OR get as high in the draft as possible. Doc will leave at seasons end. The true rebuilding will then begin.

THere is no reason to really panic right now. Let's think if we had Rondo and Sully this past season we could've got at least the 4th seed. The Knicks don't beat us with Rondo and we would've been playing the Pacers or HEAT in the 2nd round. If we stay the course how many teams in the East are better...HEAT, Pacers and Bulls.

It is hard to know how good this team really is when it missed its best player for half the season.

    ========================================

Would you say that Tim Duncan was/is better than KG ? They are both 37. I think Tim is more of a Domineering Center although he can shoot from 10-15 ft out while KG is more of  PF also very good from 10-15 ft out. Isn't the Spur team a bit like us...Ginobili is 35 and plays very much like PP---drives to the basket and can shoot 3s. Rondo is a great Guard but is definitely not the Scoring guard that Tony Parker is. The other players on the Spurs and Celtics sort of even eachother out. So, is the fact that we were without Rondo and they had Parker, the reason we are not meeting in the finals as the Spurs will do with an old Duncan and Ginobili similar to our KG & PP ? It's as BoSox Joe 5 says above, we don't know how good this team would have been had we not missed Rondo for half a season.

Could it be too that Popovich is a better coach than Doc.

Living in SF, I'm very pleased with the showing of the Warriors, as opposed to Memphis, vs the Spurs and without a healthy David Lee and Curry was limping too in final 2 games. But the starting 5 averaged 23 years old and were never outhustled !
