Josh Smith or Green, pick your poison.  Come to think of it, Josh Smith contract is a lot worse.

Really ? Doesn't Monroe's size give him a higher ceiling than Sullinger ? (an undersized hustle player) , surely Monroe has some offensive skills, more than any Celtics big man in recent memory

What about Larry Sanders or Iyssalova from Milwaukie ? Would you rather have either of these guys over Monroe ?

Olynyk and Sully are both more skilled. They both have range on their shot, and are nifty around the basket. Monroe can't shoot from more than 10-12 feet out.  If you aren't spoon feeding him the ball he disappears, and he doesn't play a lick of defense.  He is one of those guys who couldn't care less about basketball but just got so big it was his best option to be a millionaire.

His size doesn't help him that much. He is taller, longer, and heavier than Humphries but they put up the same exact #s per 36mins, and Hump played defense too.

The problem with Monroe is he's reached his full potential.

    We already know he's not a shot-blocker even when he's 6-11.

Monroe's also not a good defender.

In fact, he's one of the worst defensive bigs in the NBA.

Ilyasova and Larry Sanders have bad contracts.

I don't want any of them.

Don't worry, just wait a few months to see Sully in action and witness him becoming "Baby Love".

    Totally agree.

    Hump played very good defense.

Monroe is the opposite of very good defense.

No way Jose.  Pass the gas, please.

We don't need either of their bloated contracts in a rebuild and neither player fits with the current team roster.

I believe the plan is to trade Rondo, not bring in more incomplete, over-paid, head-case players

    That's a good start.

But like what the Spurs have done over the years, in the playoffs and Finals, it's what you do in the halfcourt that determines the outcome of the game.

It's a plus if you're a good fast breaking team, but halfcourt execution will take you to the next level.

The ideal big guy was Josh McRoberts, a guy who was in the top 5 for passes per game, meaning he is a smooth player who knows how to keep the ball moving , not a stiff, also known for his hard nosed play, as close to a rim protector as there is in the new NBA......

I actually like McRoberts a lot.  He is one of the very few UNDERRATED big men in the league. He isn't a great defender, but better than Monroe. I love guys who don't take any crap.

Right now, Monroe is better. That's not to say Sully won't catch up to him. They are very similar in the numbers. The one difference is shooting. Sully shot 42.9 from the field last season. For a big, that's pisss poor to the point of embarrassing. He really needs to stop shooting 3s.

You should judge players by the numbers, rather than "how gritty he his". McRoberts showed that he can pass ala Diaw and has a passable 3pt shot. The caveat on him is that he could be a one season wonder. Needs to prove 2013-14 wasn't a fluke.

Why would Detroit want to make that deal for Monroe?

They would gleefully make that deal for Smith.

That said, if Ainge is truly after Smith, then what this team really needs most is a drastic change of ownership/management.

I think I'll wait and see what happens with the rest of the offseason before I get to excited about which combinations will be playing with each other. Projecting who will be on the roster come opening day is next to impossible. I did however like the acquisition of Zeller and Thornton for absolutely nothing! Since the Bruins didn't re-sign Shawn Thornton and we know they traded away the best Thornton to ever play in Boston, it's nice to know we will once again have a Thornton playing in TD Garden, he just won't be skating!!!
