    Isn't it inevitable?

That either at the trade DL or next offseason Pau Gasol is dealt for expiring contracts? The Lakers really have a one year window, which is could is only if Dwight comes back quick from his back.

    Re: Isn't it inevitable?

They probably deal him next summer, they only move him at the deadline for someone like Josh Smith, if they feel a different PF would be better next to Dwight.

LA will need multiple young players and the only wiggle room they have is to deal Gasol's exp contract for overpaid borderline starters non-contenders have grown tired of paying.

Like those Al Harrington/Jason Richardson types we just saw Denver and Orlando part with

[QUOTE]LA would not trade Gasol for veterans with a bad contract like Harrington or Richardson. They will either trade him and take back very little salary for the 2013-14 season or will keep him and pay the large tax bill for the 2013-14 season. If they keep Gasol, MWP will be amnestied.

They need to fill out the roster what type of players are you going to get not having the full MLE? Do you really think they are going to commit all that money and then fill the roster out with a bunch of people making league minimum? It just makes too much sense for them just get out of that contract.

Wrong. Fierce is a Celts fan and is not a troll, the Laker fans in here are by far the worst of the trolls because this is not their forum. Not hard to understand. I'll grant you a pass because you can put some sentences together but the rest of the Laker posters here are short on brain cells.

A front court tandem of Josh Smith and Dwight Howard would be the best defensive front court in almost a decade since Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace, except much more potent on offense

I hope this doesn't happen. I wanted Josh Smith in Boston with Rondo and better fans, but at least keep him off the Lakers

All of those came before the trade and DH makes little money this year. Also, Nash only came to LA because of a sign-and-trade. To get more talent next year when they are in cap hell they will need to move some talent. They aren't going to move Kobe, and they are trying to extend Howard, which leaves either Nash or Pau. Nash just came on board and while not nearly on the same level of a player as Pau has more value to the Lakers. Jamison can just slide over to the starting position. What they should have done is try to trade Pau for an All-Star PG and use the resources that they used on Nash to get a servicable PF.

Lets not distort the facts.  Nash took less money to be near his kids.

"according to independent salary-cap expert Larry Coon, Howard could sign a maximum five-year deal worth $116.8 million that includes annual raises of 7.5%. If Howard departed for another team, he could sign for only four years and $86.7 million, receiving 4.5% raises each year."

There is one little flaw in your master plan! DH has stated he has no intention of signing, and he wants to be a UFA next summer!
