Remember the Pistons after the Celts eliminated them in the 2008 east finals?

The Pistons were an aging team at that time.

They last made the Finals in 2005.

So to fast-track the rebuilding process, the Pistons gave Ben Gordon and Charlie V HUGE contracts.

That's an example of buying good players with experience.

The result was a disaster because until now the Pistons still have not made the playoffs.

Ainge NOT getting the likes of Gortat, Livingston, or Barbosa is the right thing to do.

We don't want to be a middle of the pack team for years.

The key is to choose wisely in the lottery and keep those lottery picks, don't let them leave if they have All-Star potential.

Agree - teams have control over who they select in the draft - BUT - teams do not have control over where the lotto balls fall on lotto selection day!

    Just draft wisely.

The problem with the Clippers back in the 1990s was they couldn't hold on to their lottery picks.

    Their lottery picks always left.

Celts just need to choose wisely and hang on to them lottery picks.

I think you will agree - future impact players are usually selected early in the 1st round (1-5)!

    AND

Even then it can take several years to develop a star player!

There is no guarantee with either formula

Yeah, but the Celts have no choice.

Other NBA teams are not in the business of helping the Celtics win championships.

Ainge didn't want the #6 pick either.

    But Ainge had no choice.

Celtic owner, Ainge, and Celtic fans wanted Kevin Love.

    Wolves owner refused.

We have no choice but to be patient.

There's no doubt the Celts will be contenders again.

It's just a matter of when.

Patient OR strike when the iron is hot!

DA is paid to make that call! Like he says if the right deal presents itself - he will not hesitate to make it!

Yeah, but it looks like other teams are really not excited about Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Gerald Wallace, and even Rondo.

Again, even if Ainge wants to make a deal, if other teams don't oblige nothing happens.

Fierce - several teams are in a holding pattern, waiting for Lebron and Melo to sign! Best case for the Cs, if they are trying to move Rondo, is for LJ and Melo to sign with their current teams.

Houston and LA would have to resort to back-up plans if that happens.

Put a cork in it Fierce !

Ainge didn't give Gortat $12M/5yrs , he didn't sign Livingston either , Barbosa for minimum wage? Certainly Barbosa is better than Phil Pressey !

The AVERY BRADLEY signing is a good one, stop whinging !

    Re: It Could Be Worse

I hope Jordan Hill IS headed to the Celtics.......

He'd be even better than getting Hump back

BARBOSA would be a great pickup, Celtics are going to trade THEIR draft pick and all this tanking foolishness will fade away , sick of hearing you say a rebuild means it's better to lose , you're wrong ! Celtics dump their pick in a trade and put the pedal to the metal......didn't you see what PHX did last season ? (before Bledsoe got injured) , Celtics will be in the playoffs next season and they'll probably be top 4 in the East

    WAKE UP FIERCE !

    Re: It Could Be Worse

I think until Melo and LBJ commit a lot of teams out of that sweepstakes are going to try to keep their options open to see if they make some tag along moves in 3 team trades or plan B trades with the teams that lost out on those two.

I was a guy that wanted us to make a go at Gortat and I don't think Wash overpaid, I think if he did go the FA route he would of made more.

Fiercy did say we would probably resign AB. I don't think anyone thought 8 mil or I didn't anyway. I'm not saying a bad contract but it is a high risk/ high reward signing that isn't too much of a stretch.

It is luck , either way you go, say you are right and it appears you are, Rondo is not needed then.
