It really isn't too soon to know that Green will not be an all time great.

He turns 27 this year. He might make an all star game or two, he isn't going to the HOF.

Didnt understand you. I agree. He still has time to be a all-star is all I was saying. All defensive team. You never know.

Whats your point? Cooper was a 6 foot 5 gaurd that was a defensive specialist who only averaged in double figues once in his career.

Caldwell was also a 6 foot 5 gaurd.

Not sure what your point is by mentioning those two names in a response to a post when I said Green wont be an all time great.

I agree. Green is playing great.  All I said was he isn't going to have as good a career as Pippin or Worthy.

thats why I brought up Derrick McKey as a comparison. 6 foot 9, made some all defensive teams, averaged 15 points, got some boards, and could handle the ball.

McKey was a very good player.

    Joe Caldwell.

this new up tempo game the Celts are playing is unleashing Jeff Green's athleticism and running the floor skills. i don't think it matters whether he starts or not. he can only get better and better. he's an important piece of this puzzle.

There are valid comparisons, but it all comes down to Green and his unique circumstances.  He is a different type of player than all of them and we are going to see in the next weeks if as Forrest Gump said he is still like a box of chocolates and you never know what you are going to get.

Re: Jeff Green's Game is Emerging!

One reason Green isn't as active on the boards is that he is usually defending the best offensive player on the opposing team. This isn't Green peak though,he can be more productive and I expect that to emerge as the season goes on. Pierce and Green need to keep building a rythymn together offensively. Green can hit the three as good as Pierce and I think they could combine for a devastating inside out two man game, they just need to get a better feel for where the other one is on the floor and when and where they want the ball.

Doc is slowly coming around to the idea that there is more than one way to skin a cat and using players better but, I think he still has the ball stick in PPs hands in half court sets and down the stretch too much. The 1/2 court set that has a spot shooter in each corner was tailor made for Allen but RA isn't here anymore. We can still have 2 corner outlet guys but we don't need to have them standing there for the whole 24 seconds reacting to an iso for PP or KG. We run more pick and rolls uptop and have more baseline cut and picks we can keep space for driving, still have dual outlets and have more than 1 player under the boards for rebounding.

I think if we can keep the ball moving through the offense  without sticking and get Green and AB and Lee more looks in crunch time will unclog the offense late in games we an beat anybody. Doc needs to go back nd watch film of all those championships we won hammering teams that had better stars but not a better team. It was simple the ball went to who was the furthest down the floor and then go down and back up the play as a trailer. You do this all game long you keep the opposition in between the FT lines and unorganized on both sides of the ball.

Plus he always covered Bird who I am pretty sure was a legitimate 6 foot nine.  At six five and 170 that is pretty good. Cooper was a tough annoying son of gun.

If PP would have Pippens handle of the ball and his D he would be the fighting the MJs of the world for the best player ever to play the game.

What I want to point out:

It is not easy for a big wingplayer to get as great in this areas of the game as Pippen. Who did since? Lebron James and ...?

+ 1 good point! With that stated, I do wish he would follow his own shot a bit more. He needs to aquire the desire to get rebounds!

Celtics' Jeff Green Put Chris Bosh On a Poster (Video & GIF)! Saying Jeff Green can sky would be a huge understatement. Saying that Green just dunked it on Chris Bosh would also be an understatement as well because the Celtics forward put CB on the receiving end of a poster. Re: Jeff Green's Game is Emerging!

On Jan. 9, 2012, Jeff Green was lying on a surgical table.

On Jan. 9, 2013, Jeff Green was flying on a basketball court.

The Boston Celtics reserve scored a team-high 14 points Wednesday night in an 87-79 victory against the Phoenix Suns. The win was punctuated by an anniversary for Green, who had an aortic aneurysm repaired one year earlier.

BOX SCORE: Celtics 87, Suns 79

"I can't put it into words. I mean, it's a wonderful day," said Green, who missed all of last season with the heart condition. "I reflect a lot on what I've been through and it's just a blessing and I'm glad I'm here."

We are, too. Green put up poster-caliber dunks on consecutive plays in the first half. For the first, he dunked on former Celtic Jermaine O'Neal. For the second, he took a transition lob from Avery Bradley for an alley-oop.

Green has become a stable role player for the Celtics, averaging 9.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 23.1 minutes a game. He missed all of last season to have the aneurysm fixed!

Bass is 4.9 boards in about 25 minutes.  Horrible.

Green is 3.2 in 24 minutes.  Pathetic.

Like I said I like the rest of Greens game a lot, but a lot of shooting guards are better rebounders than Green.

    [/QUOTE]

Of course you want more rebounds from Green, esp as a combo-forward, but thats not 'pathetic' as a shooter-slasher. Bass is worse IMO.

As exclusively a SF, 3.2 in 24 mins puts him at about 4.7 in starters mins (36). Pierce averaged exactly 5 boards a game the past 3 years playing a little over 34 mins a game. Granted when Paul was 25-28 years old he played 36-39 minutes a game and pulled down 6-7 rebounds a game.

But I think you'd be hard pressed to find 'a lot' of SG's who average over 4.7 rebounds per 36 minutes snake. Unless you have a list ready.

Re: Jeff Green's Game is Emerging!

Per 36 minutes: Jeff Green (4.7), Harden (4.6), Wade (4.9), Kobe (5.2), Joe Johnson (4.0), Iguodala (5.6), Tony Allen (5.1), Aaron Afflalo (3.9), Jared Dudley (3.7)

Those are the SG's who come to mind when I think of aggressive rebounders for the position... There are not 'a lot' of SG's out there who outrebound Jeff Green per minute, maybe only 5-6, 4.7 per 36 mins for a SF is probably slightly below average so yes he does have to rebound better, but its not 'pathetic'
