In response to Fierce34's comment:
There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Dirk Nowitzki is one of the weakest defenders in NBA history. But he still won a championship, right?
KG's defense will surely be missed.
However, how Brad Stevens makes his players play defense is more important.
A team with an above average defense will always win over defense oriented teams that are not great offensive teams.
Defense can only do so much.
Just like in 2010 and 2012 when the Celts led the Lakers in the 4th in Game 7 of the 2010 Finals and when the score was tied heading into the 4th in Game 7 of the east finals against the Heat in 2012.
Remember, basketball is a shooting game. The objective is put the ball in the basket, whether from long range or point blank range.
Better offense always trumps great defenses.
Defense and offense are inherently equally important. They're two sides of the same coin.
it is proper coaching to emphasize defense because players naturally gravitate toward offense.
