Fully agree. But why would you like him on our team then? Toxic contract, bad back, plays no D... Pau Gasol or J-Smoove would be great additions but Amare would set us back, a lot.
I don't see the Knicks getting rid of him soon and he's indeed a terrible burden. If they could get something in return they'd be taking another step forward.
I still think we'll be better once we've gelled but I don't underestimate them, Woodson is a solid coach on the defensive end compared to D'Antoni.
Amare's contract is only up to 2015. He's still 29 years old, turns 30 on Friday. So he's still young.
He doesn't have chronic back problems. His back injury was because of a dunk during warm ups against the Celts in the 2011 playoffs.
The Celts will save money, in the long run, if the contracts of Lee, Bass, and Green will be traded for Amare's.
When Bass first came to the Celts, he was also not a defensive player. Celtic defense is about defensive schemes, rotations, and help defense. Amare can learn the system.
Amare is also as good as Bass when it comes to shooting jumpers from the perimeter.
Bottom line is Amare's positives outweigh his negatives and he will be an upgrade over Bass.
