Laker pre-game show talking about Pierce for Gasol

All the trolls in disbelief that Gasol is worth more than Pierce be aware a consensus of Laker TV talking heads thought the trade was necessary and viable.

I do not know how I feel. Seeing Pierce today playing like the PP of old it is not a simple choice. Who would play small forward for us?

Really tough call, but I'd do it.  I think Pietrus can step into the SF role.

Very tough call, but that trade could potentially help both teams. Especially if Lakers could then somehow land Howard, and the celtics could make a move to acquire a young scorer (Paul George, Michael Beasley, JR Smith)

Fierce I agree with your last post about Allen. In my mind, I have been debating who is the easiest to replace of the big 4, and I think it's Allen.
In Response to Re: Laker pre-game show talking about Pierce for Gasol : Yeah, but I don't think that's what the Lakers are really after. I think the Lakers are really after Ray and JO. Both have expiring contracts which will allow the Lakers to sign DH in the summer. On draft night the Lakers trade Bynum for Deron and everything falls into place. The Lakers are executing a misdirection play.
Posted by Fiercest34
If the Lakers don't have Pau next year and have Deron instead of Bynum, LA would still be $6m-$8m OVER the cap. They would need to be at least $15m/year under the cap to sign Dwight.

So the Lakers are telling everyone they want Pierce but they really want Allen & JON and this "misdirection" is gonna get Danny to fall for it and help the Lakers acquire DH before Danny has a chance to play his cards .... Hilarious .... You think this up all by yourself?

When have the Celtics and Fakers ever done a blockbuster trade?  I don't care how it helps both teams, this is the BOSTON CELTICS, and doing business with our main rival is blasphemy!

I can't agree with that sentiment, jdm.  If the Celts and Lakers can do a deal that is mutually beneficial, they shouldn't hold back and allow themselves to fall further behind the Heat, Bulls, Thunder, Clippers, etc.  The Celts' priority should always be to position themselves as the best in the East, period.

Absolutely. Its not like the Lakers or C's are contenders. They have to catch up with the competition or be left behind.

Fierce,
Remember by the deadline the direction of the season will be determined.  The idea of Dwight Howard will not be an option after the deadline.  Kobe as a disruptive ball hog will be more evident by then to Laker management and Howard will seem like the only course.

As you have stated teams often win with out a top point guard. The Lakers have to believe that as well.

Trading Pierce would be stupid unless we got a major team upgrade. I don't see a Gasol for Paul as that move it is more of a lateral move. I really don't think DA will mortgage our future for an asterick season. If we do trade any of the 3 it would be Ray,he has a more reasonable contract and we could fill a couple holes with younger player. Teams that have too many F and no G like Utah or Sac or Mem.

How will we do tonight against Orlando, I wonder? DH getting 30 rebounds?

Fierce,
Ray is not looking very valuable right now. I know it would be done for cap space but Ray looks like the most one dimensional player in the NBA now.
