In Response to Re: Melo is an official Knick..is NY better?:The Knicks still aren't in the NBA's top ten teams. The Celtics are still at the top. The Boston Jam's power rankings are legit. Check em' out http://www.thebostonjam.com/

Rightfully so - this is not about 2011. -

Terrible bench, zero defense, all offense, bad coaching = 6th seed in the East -

I have yet to read anything or speak to anyone who thinks otherwise. We got the point.
It still was a trade that had to be made and it improves the Knicks going into the future by a large margin. -

The Knicks got the better end of the stick... Melo with Billips added... they are way better now. Guaranteed more W's now. -

In Response to Re: Melo is an official Knick..is NY better?:How can people knock this trade for the Knicks? It's really pretty simple. You don't make the trade and your an ok team that doesn't make it to the finals with one elite player in Amare and going nowere in the future. You make the trade and your an ok team that doesn't make it to the finals and now have 2 elite players to build around. Any person with a brain does the trade 100 out of 100 times. Wilson Chandlers and Gallanari are are a dime a dozen compared to a Melo.

It makes them better for the future, but not now. Felton is better than billips these days, although playoff experience and nerves may help in the big games. To me, the big loss will be DG and his shooting. Carmello doesn't really space the floor the way DG did to allow amare space. To some extent, amare and anthony are redundant players like lebron and dwade. -

Good post, Tompenny and KyCeltic. This is a no brainer. NY couldn't risk not getting Carmelo in the free agent market when he might has taken an extension with Denver or the Nets. They now have something to build on and don't underestimate how good Billups is. I'm not with all the people who say Felton is better. Felton is a little faster, but Billups will be the ball to the two big guys better and is a better shooter and can post up/attract fouls better than Felton. The Knicks will be better this year, although not championship quality, yet.And I agree with whoever said they will never be championship quality until they get a coach who understands that lots of teams have offense, but adding defense wins championships. -

If the Celtics somehow end up playing the Knicks in the playoffs, their game plan should be simple; take it to the hoop and get Amare or Melo in foul trouble. Once that happens, the Knicks have slim pickings for their bench and can't compete with a team like Boston. -

That's if Amare doesn't get KG in foul trouble first. -

I don't get why anybody is bashing the future of the Knicks. They just landed a flat out franchise player and one of the best in the league. Don't forget, this team is still suffering from the damage that Isiah caused.
This team has minimal depth and defensive issues, but they set themselves up to at least gauge some interest in the playoffs (possible 2nd round team?). -

Knicks will be better than many on this board think this year, but they won't beat the Celts, Bulls, or Heat. The real opportunity will come this summer when the Knicks can attract even more talent (free agent money as they are certainly rich and a market that is very attractive for players). Expect the Knicks to be very relevant in 2011/2012. -

SPC - it seems you and I have more common ground here. I am enjoying your thought process. Good job. -

Carmelo and Amare aren't proven winners. All the talent in the world, but they just can't win when it counts. Maybe things will change in a year or so, but don't count on NY making it past the first round of the playoffs this year. -
