Please, Plaschke is not a Laker Fan, he's a bone head!  If Harden doesn't get up in MWP's grill then it is a moot point.

So again it's Harden's fault? I guess the other 13 or so players, camera men, fans, coaches, wives, and dogs must've also been at fault for getting in his ugly grill during the other 13 or so suspensions and arrests? Interesting...

He should have been suspended for the remainder of the season.   I think it is only reasonable that the Lakers are without him for their entire playoff run.

I heard Metta on LA sports radio, he was watching his elbow of Harden and muttered Wow------ that was a vicious elbow.  Hard to watch, he said.

He obviously mentally ill, feeling he is not responsible for his actions.

The league should have suspended him for the playoffs and demanded he get help for his insanity.

The guy is legitimately nutz but he had been keeping his nose clean of late. Give him some credit.

He will be on a very short leash when he returns so he will lose some of his hyper-aggressiveness and attitude.

Re: Metta Pinhead gets seven games

If you watch the video Harden intentionally got into Artest's space, closed his fist and tapped the Laker player's shoulder with the intent to intimidate. This action with Metta wildly celebrating his dunk on 3 OKC players resulted in a spontaneous response by the Laker--& boom.

Notice that Metta didn't even look to see who the player was and didn't care. He reacted to someone getting into his space during an emotional celebration. Had he been a taller player (ala Durant), the blow would have been to the chest & we wouldn't be having this discussion. Had Harden not bought into all the hype about "sending a message," "be physical," & stayed out of the space of Metta World Peace, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Keep in mind that the refs had allowed this game to get out of control at times. Harden had fouled Artest in an earlier play before the elbow incident.

The league office watched the tape, understood the circumstances. I don't agree with 7 games but I do agree that Metta should have been suspended. NBA fans, including objective fans in Boston, know that Stern & co. have never been and will never be consistent. It's amazing how any Boston fan would be complaining about Metta & physical play when that is a the Celtic trademark, the Celtic tradition.

Whether it was Lambeer & Bird, Parish cold cocking Lambeer, McHale leveling Rambis, or later Bell doing the same to Kobe, Wade breaking Kobe's nose & giving him a concussion as well. It's a physical sport. As for Harden, he says that he's alright, that he wants to play. & yes Metta has serious psychological problems but has been seeing a specialist for the last couple of years.

As a Laker fan, I do enjoy watching great basketball. Ball movement is what I appreciate & though I want the Lakers to win, I'm critical of selfish play from L.A. I grudgingly give props to Doc & those great Celtics of the past.

Right now it looks like San Antonio may win another banner. You know who I'll be rooting for!

How about the last time the poll was taken? Sames 2 guys at the top, Evans and Artest. Some things never change. KG was not on that list but Kobe was. As for the current list the lakers would have numbers 2, 3, and 5 if they had their way. See a pattern here?

By your own words, if the guy is nutz, a short leash  or diminshed aggressiveness are hardly deterents. Artest just cant control himself in a hyped up situation. So he can be an angel until the trigger is pulled. Then risk of longer suspensions arent even an issue.

I dont give him credit for keeping his nose clean of late. What, because he acted like a sane human being for a while he should get a parade?  He should have rec'd the boot from the playoffs and maybe from the NBA as well. How many chances does he get? Is Stern waiting for someone to get seriously injured or killed before he puts on his sad act of how regrettful he is for not dealing with Artest  more severely?

Marc Gold's "Competence-deviance" theory certainly applies to MWP. Google it.

In short, the more competent you are, the more deviance  will be tolerated in you by others... no matter the profession.

This applies to MWP as well as to any other world-class, outrageously talented athlete or professional leader.

If MWP was grappling with his demons  down in a church league, he would have been banned a long time ago.

He is a highly paid individual working for a highly successful franchise inside a very high $$$ league and as such will be tolerated much like the world class heart surgeon whose personal dalliances/demons are overlooked because he brings lots of money/prestige to the teaching hospital that employs him.

That's the way the world works.

Look at the deviant crap we tolerate from our religious leaders, movie stars and politicians.

If you are good enough, you can get away with most anything. If you are only mediocre... look out. You will be treated rudely to say the least... for doing the exact same things.

    Money talks.

Good point.  Stockton was dirty a player that has ever played, yet he thrived like a model citizen.  Metta is someone that could have been jailed for his on court actions.

It is highly questionable whether Harden "invaded" Artest's space.  One might argue he was already in the lane, and heading for the inbounds pass.  Regardless, this is basketball, and one is not allowed to hit first because someone is "in their space".  That is the job of the defender, to get in your space.  It is NOT okay to elbow someone (not knowing who they are) because you may or may not feel threatned!  He is a repeat offender and got off easy!!

Give me a freaken break with this Harden got in his way crap. That's like saying Holyfield was at fault because he shouldn't have put his ears near Tyson's mouth. Anyone defending this nut is just as mental as Ron Artest.
