No Rondo trade to Dallas unless Dwight Howard goes first

Dallas Mavericks are in talks with the Boston Celtics to pursue point guard Rajon Rondo, according to a source close to the situation. But the source said that no deal involving Rondo would occur unless the Mavericks were able to acquire Dwight Howard. That’s because of salary cap ramifications. rondo isn't going to Dallas. they have absolutely nothing to offer the Celtics. there's a better chance of Boston getting Howard than there is Dallas getting Rondo.

Wrong. They can take our bad contracts and give us some expiring ones. If Dallas decides to do this, it could happen.

there's a better chance of Boston getting Howard than there is Dallas getting Rondo."

Not true as Howard has total control and no desire to be in Boston.

The challenge here is if Dallas insists on signing Howard first. Houston has the inside track there, but Dallas has a shot.

I agree that it's more likely that Howard comes to Boston before Rondo goes to Dallas. Dallas has nothing Boston wants or needs.

lot easier to trade crappy contracts to land Howard

Howard foresees also the future of the Boston

imagine if have this lignup and then we still have a shot for wiggins?

    Rondo/Williams

    Bradley/Crawford/Bogans

    Green/Joseph

    Bass/Sully/Olynyk

    Howard/Melo/FA

    In response to Fierce34's comment:

Seriously, the Celtics and Dwight are not even meeting when free-agency starts.

And there's no way the Lakers can do a sign and trade with Dwight unless they amnesty Pau Gasol or Kobe.

Dwight to the Celtics is fantasy because the Celts are already a rebuilding team.

It would have made sense if Dwight came to Boston to join KG and Pierce.

Why is this outside the realm of possibility? The Celtics are free of Garnett's and Pierce's contracts and there's nothing stopping them from releasing Kris Humphries and/or Gerald Wallace if need be. Nothing personal, but I think the "rebuilding" meme gets tossed around too quickly in people's minds when big name players leave a team. The truth is that KG and Pierce were more on the diminishing returns side of the equation as opposed to being major contributors. They did what they could and had to during their time in Boston, but who can truly deny that they were fading? What's more is that even with them, the Celtics were still a .500 ball club. I really wish people would step back from the after shock and really make an honest appraisal of where the Celtics were and really think about where they were going with the team they had.

Say what you will about Danny, but I doubt he's as much of a fool as people claim and he would be remiss in his duties if he didn't contemplate making a move on Dwight Howard. Especially when he has little to nothing to lose in the process. The Celtics already have draft picks (including 6 first rounders) over the next 4 years and expiring contracts to boot. The idea/possibility that the Celtics could sign Dwight Howard isn't as much of a fantasy as you think it is. The question is whether it will or won't happen.

    That's just fantasy.

If the Celtics have Rondo, Green, Bradley, and Dwight, that means the Celtics will be a playoff team and NO SHOT at Wiggins.

Since it's highly unlikely we can get Howard, the question is what can Dallas give us for rondo? The answer is not much, other than a draft pick or 2 and maybe absorb Wallace's contract.

Then there's really nothing we can get back that's better than rondo. Unless we're just dumping him for nothing more than draft picks, which doesn't make a lot of sense To me.

Dumping lee's contract to take on lin's is going from the frying pan to the fire IMO. And we now have three young 7-footers on the roster. Asik would have been nice a year or two ago.

Ainge said he'll build around Bradley, Green, and Sullinger. So maybe Rondo is not part of the future of the Celtics.

Asik and Lin for Rondo and Lee.

Celts get to dump Lee's contract and the Celts get a true young Center in Asik.

    [/QUOTE]

Asik may be a true center, but as a building block he is a better Perkins.  I think we need to get a an outsized talent like Cousins or someone who can be a star like Rondo can.  Asik is not a star player.  All these pieces out there will not move the needle for a rebuilding team.

Re: No Rondo trade to Dallas unless Dwight Howard goes first

So the average cap hit for Lin is 8 mil per year. The average for lee is just over 5 mil per year. That would seem to make the lee contract easier to trade and more desireable for teams looking to create space. They are both bad contracts, but lin's is worse. And lee is arguably the better player.
