"Off the Wall" being the operative words...........no chance.......after the 2012 season Dwight can opt out and be a free agent. Depending on what happens with several teams.........New York, LA, Dallas, and yes even Boston will be interested and offering a max deal..........rumors in FL are he will pull a "Shaq" and bolt Orlando for LA........IN 2012, Ray Allen will retire, Shaq and Jermaine will be gone, KG will be in his last contract year.......at that point you go after him............he is the crown jewel in the 2012 class.

Agreed!  Very unrealistic trade that would never happen.

I've noticed a very common theme with these trade proposals.

    It's always a decent player, a mediocre player and a throw-in for a superstar/A grade player.

It's funny how no one ever proposes the opposite.  Like trading Rondo for Derek Fisher, Shannon Brown and Ron Artest, hahaha.

It'd be nice, but I don't think Orlando is going to trade away their only chance (small though it may be) of beating Boston and Miami.

Howard goes to the Lakers and joins a long list of great Laker centers...Mikan, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq (the younger version). It's no secret Howard has expressed an interest in joining the Lakers and carrying on from KB24.

Why would Dwight Howard go to LA?  They have Gasoft and Bynum.  No room for DH.  They would have to trade one of them.

I could see Howard signing with the Lakers at some time in the future.  Wouldn't happen this year, but the Lakers would just trade one of their big men to sign him.  Not sure who else would have to be traded because of the salary cap implications.  The salary cap will probably change in the future.  Just hope that they can come to some type  of agreement next season.  I would be very disappointed if their was no NBA next year.  Also the possibility of no NFL next season.  Imagine what next year would be without the NFL and NBA.  It would be different without these two sports for an entire season.

Hey, who would've ever imagined Bosh, Lebron and Wade on the same team.  Or even Garnett, Pierce and Allen.

Ok, there's no way Howard's going to LA unless it's a sign and trade, and I don't see LA having anyone Orlando would want.

By 2012 when DH become available the Lakers will let go of either Bynum, Artest, Gasol...  Or a combo of two of those 3 players, I don't think they would mind letting any of the three go if they getting back DH wouuldn't you think so?

And didn't they just freed up about 4 mil from sasha?  And i believe also that Walton's contract is gonna be up... that's another 5 mil?  SO if i do my math correctly and i'm just doing simple math here with let's say Bynum and artest that is 16 mil + 5 mil( from artest) + the 4 mil (from sasha) + 5 mil (from Walton).... isn't that like 30 mils that they have to play around with?  Just saying...

I have to reply to your excellent post!

We all will regret not having an NBA next year but for all those millionaires (both owners and players) they deserve what they get. I am a Union supporter!!  but in this case I support neither Union or management!

For my part I'll be very happy to watch some really great College ball including both men and women. If that isn't enough maybe I'll go shoot some hoops with my grand kids or do a century on my bike! No big deal.

Hopefully great advice for all of us!

    Best!

Walton has 3 years left, Artest has 4.  And they didn't "free up" money on the Sasha trade, they saved on luxury tax.  There is a difference!!  Bynum has 2 years at 13.7.  IF he leaves, that doesn't mean they can use that money to sign someone else......wow......you need salary cap 101.  koME and Gasol are both good for FOUR more years, and Odom is good for 3.........now, they could do a sign and trade with ORL.........but my money says he stays in ORL.........and you really need to brush up on your salary cap lessons.  With the new CBA, the rumor is the salary cap will be even less, so Buss pays MORE in luxury tax while koME and Gasol take up over half the cap by themselves.........just saying, and nice try again....come back when you know more about your own team than I do!!

I just looked up info regarding the salary cap/team salaries, and here's the verdict.  The salary cap this season is $58 mil (Lakers are currently at $91.6 mil.
Dwight Howard will be a free agent after the 2012-2013 season.  I've heard rumors that under the new salary cap, the max contracts will be set at approximately $11 mil (players will be taking a huge hit, but I digress).

During that free agent period, the Lakers will have the following players hitting free agency: Bynum ($16.5 mil), Odom ($8.3 mil), Walton ($6.1 mil) & Fisher ($3.1 mil).  However, even after factoring in the Lakers not signing any of these guys in order to go after Howard, the Lakers still ended up with $58.1 mil which would mean that even after all that, they'd still be over the cap.  Assuming the Lakers elect not to sign anyone that year, that leaves them with only Artest ($7.7 mil) and Blake ($4 mil) as tradeable assets.

i know what you're thinking...sweet they could just work out a sign and trade!  Let's just say that the odds of that happening are slim and none.  But for arguments sake I said lets just assume anyway.  Ok then, let L.A. sign him then.  No problem, the roster only has two players on it; Kobe ($30.5 mil) and Gasol ($19.3 mil).  Even if Howard wanted to sign with them, the only way that he could do so and fit within the salary cap would be to sign for about $8 mil/yr (max contract = $11 mil).

Even after all this, the Lakers would only have 3 players on their ENTIRE roster.  They would not even be able to field a starting 5 (even if the chose to sign minimum salary players to fill out the roster, which they wouldn't be able to).

So, as we can all clearly see, the Lakers have a 0% chance of landing Dwight Howard unless they trade either Kobe or Gasol plus let all of their other player leave via free agency.

    Thanks for playing!

Isn't a salary cap and division of TV and other designated revenues among the teams SOCIALISM? How come there's no public outcry over professional sports' REAL attachment to the socialist ideology, as defined as, all members of a society share equally in the spoils, regardless of their input. AND, labor renumeration is RESTRICTED for the 'good' of the 'society'! I guess we need Bachman and Palin to look into the rampant socialism in MLB, NBA, and the NFL [a real case of socialism gone wild] and give us a report! lol
