Also, as I said, I would seriously HATE trying to get into an offense with Avery Bradly guarding me.  So then the question is:  why doesn't everyone learn to play defense like that?
Because they are lazy.
Well, you've got to have the ability as well. I mean, PP will never be a defender like bradley even if he wanted to. But RR?
Sorry, teams used to play full court presses.

Now if the coach told a team to full court press, half the guys would be on the phone with their agents asking for a trade.
true that, lol!

Bradley has incredible lateral quickness. He can move side to side faster than most any NBA player. Rondo could do this but it would take a toll. He is runing the offense 40 minutes a game.

Jeff Green btw has terrible lateral quickness despite being a gazelle in other areas.

The Bulls did it i remeber in their first 3peat. Last night we did a little bit when we had Lee and Bradley on the floor. It wrecked havoc with the knicks.  Most ball handlers in the NBA are so good, a press is just a waste of time, but Bradley is somethingspecial on defense.

Bradley's "D", while impressive, still doesn't fix our rebounding and 3 point shooting issues.

Re: OK, WTF is going on with this team?

No. You have to be built for that.

You need physical attributes.  Long arms, good balance. etc.  Both KG and AB have that.  Rondo and Green also have that.

And then you need that something special.  The instinct.  The wiring.  The ability to make a quick read and react to it before the offensive player has gained any advantage.  You can't get that by practice.  You have it or you don't.  You can hone it a bit by practice.  But you have to have it.

Check out AB.  He is constantly moving.  Look at his eyes.  Look at the focus.  Look at how he is continuously maximizing his ability to react.  He switches the weight balance on his feet.  He continuously adjusts his body position.

That is not because he is hard working.  That is because he is processing all that in his sub-conscious brain.

That is what I am waiting for with Jeff Green.  He is playing with his conscious mind.  He is thinking too much.  That is why he is slow.  When will he get to the point that his sub-conscious takes over?  Can he get there?  Lets hope that he discovers that connection soon.

Re: OK, WTF is going on with this team?

It fixes our rebounding issue by ensuring that our bigs are not out of position that much.  The shooting is a different problem.  When Paul Pierce has a bad day, the Celts will have serious offensive issues.

Actually it is helping. When A guard gets beat on D the big has to rotate over to cut off the drive. This puts him out of position for a rebound. Bradley isn't getting beat much. Our bigs are in better postion to rebound and have improved in rebounding of late.

AB and RR  ran there own press last year against the Heat and through 5/1/2 games it actually worked.
You could be correct on the rebounding but against the Knicks we got out-rebounded 42-36. Certainly a bigger sample will answer that question. The other point I made was about the 3 point shooting. It stinks! Terry has been dreadful and is there anyone besides Pierce you can count on for an open three?

Re: OK, WTF is going on with this team?

Bradley is a special type of player. As in possibly THE BEST on ball defender in the league. What this does is forces the other teams offense out further on the court and makes every pass that much harder. The C's are a small team inside but can make up for that by clogging passing lanes, closing out on shots, and being the quicker and more aggressive team. I forsee BIG things for this team ahead but they will have to sustain a nice run before the All-Star break.
We got out-rebounded by the Suns last night 55-49 and when Bradley was on the floor with the 1st team we got killed. Had it not been been for Sullinger's 16 boards things would have been much worse. Maybe Bradley's presence on the floor will have some bearing on the rebounding but I just haven't seen it yet. A better fix, in my mind would be to get Bass off the 1st team and ease Sullinger onto it. Bass reminds of Perkins, in that he never seems ready for the ball nor know what to do with it when he gets it. He may have a better mid-range jumper than Perkins but unfortunately he doesn't rebound like him.

We just put our team back together from last year....KG, Pierce, Bass, Bradley, and Rondo.

We can win a championship with that team.

Re: OK, WTF is going on with this team?

bradley's outstanding d has helped everyone from both a positioning standoint, in terms of haviing less pressure because he is occupying a player all on his own that can't get anywhere, and because his mere example has increased the energy levl and demanded more effort. that's what great players and leaders do. he may not be a great all around player yet, but he is a great defender right now.

with that said, as constituted this team has virtually no chance to win a championship. add a serviceable big man (or better yet 2) without giving up the whole bench (and avoid losing sullinger/bradley) AND get Wilcoc back at full strength and they MIGHT THEN be in a position to think about challenging miami. EITHER WAY they will be an underdog vs. the heat. make no move and they probably won't see the finals. if they do they'll likely get swept. this team has to make a move. there is no question about it.

most nba players don't play defense like avery bradley because they don't have the talent and innate desire to do so. laziness has nothing to with it. why doesn't every player score 20 a game? why doesn't every quarterback play like tom brady? why doesn't every big man average 14 rebounds a game? because they're lazy? no, because they don't have the talent to do so. players in the nba make milions. they are among the most well conditioned athletes in the world. you have to know absolutely nothing about basketball and have to have never played the game to think you can make it to the nba being lazy. go through a high level division one practice and see how lazy you think the players are, let alone at a league where only the best of the best make it. now, you want to say most players don't focus on defense because they think scoring points will make them money and prolong their career. fine. plenty of possible reasons why they're might not be a lot of outstsnding ball defenders in the game. skill level of offensive players is so hugh it's very hard to truly "stop" people. the rules make it hard to get physical. there's no more hand-checking. a reliance on open three means less cutting to the basket. etc. etc. laziness not  part of the equation.
