Only ten teams in league and L.A. couldn't win a title

With only ten teams in the league in the 60s, the Lakers couldn't win a title. They made to the finals in 1959 and Lost to the Celtics. They proudly made it again in 1962 and lost to the Celtics. The Joyfuly arrived in 1963 for another chance... and lost to the Celtics.Determined to change the outcome they fought their way back in 1965 and lost to the Celtics.Taking pride in being number two they returned for a butt whooping at the hands of the Celtics in 1966in 1968 the were proud to take the Celtics to seven games But lost to the Celtics.in 1969 perfecting the "we're number two!" chant they lost to the Celtics again.Yes it is easier to win a title with ten teams in the league sadly for the Lakers the Celtics were one of those teams. -

Shws how great Bill and Red were, and how they were so competitive they never took a season off trying to stay on top
LA had the 2nd and 3rd best player in almost all of those series (Elgin/West) but lacked C's depth, anchor in the middle and brain on the bench. When they finally did get that monster Center they still choked, at home, in a game 7 they put balloons in the ceiling for...
hahaha
Call it 40-50 years ago all you want... LA was there every year, went 0-7 and had a top 12 and top 25 all-time player 6 of the times (only time it was just Elgin it was in Minny) and added a top 5 player all-time for one of the losses.
Say what you want about it being a 10 team league... LA defined choking more than any NBA team in league history and has to claim titles from the pre-shot clock era that they STOLE from the city of Minneapolis just to get within 1 title of the greatest franchise of all time.

It was a city stealing them from another city
They should have remained waiting for the Wolves
Research the disrespect the Lakers showed the Minny organization, players, titles, etc. over the years and you will come back appalled with the franchise that only decided decades later to shove all 5 MN title years onto ONE banner in their ceilling and only b/c it got them closer to Boston.
Sure, it is an 'official' stat, but they are cheap and shameful in the eyes of knowledgable fans of the game and its history -

All I know is that the Celtics lost 3-2 series lead 3 times in the last 3 years. Now that is the ultimate in choking. They were supposed to win many titles with 3 HOF, the Big 3 turned out to be the Big Thud. That's all I know, 3-2 leads and disaster. -

championships are won by cities not names. I don't like teams switching towns and keeping the name of the prior city. IMO Oklahoma City has absolutely nothing to do with Seattle. In Response to Re: Only ten teams in league and L.A. couldn't win a title:When a team moves from one city to another city, it is the same team. The 59-60 Minneaplois Lakers had many of the same players as the 60-61 LA Lakers. Are you saying that those players now were playing for a different organization because they relocated to another city? OKC Thunder are the same organization as the Seattle SuperSonics with the same ownership. Cities don't win championships or games, teams (organizations) do.

" it's nice to see a classy laker fan for a change"nope, he's a phony, a fake, a sockpuppet like Tommy Rules. I feel sorry for the no-lifers who pathetically try to maintain these accounts after they are exposed. The Minneapolis Lakers titles in my view are legitimately attached to the Lakers franchise and are just as valid as the Celtics champsionships during that period. Therefore, any Laker fan who argues in favor of counting the Minny champsionships must also recognize the Celts legit titles during that period. Therefore, the total championship count is Celtics 17, Lakers 16:I don't see either team breaking that for a while. However, for the Celts to stay in the lead we'll need some very savvy moves or miraculous draft picks as NBA player movement today favors warm weather urban locations. -

So.....if a team relocated to Seattle.......and Kevin Durant's team wins the NBA title, does Seattle now have TWO? Or does OKC have one? -
