Varejao had 20 rebounds, 10 offensive, while the Celts, as a team, could only get 28 total rebounds. Ugh!

Fierce this screams out for help. This team is going to lose game after game with this old line up.  With Rondo back Doc will play the starters and let this team go on this course which has doomed them since the start of the season.  If we could get a Varajeo(or someone like him)the Celtics would be transformed.

Trade Ray, Ainge,  he can't supply anything but threes.  If we stay on this course we will not be a .500 team.
Celtic players are waiting for the ball to go down before grabbing it. Young players like Varejao go up to grab the ball while it's still in the air.  It's time for a change.
    Posted by Fiercest34
So very true. Change happened when the Cs won 4 straights recently. It was a YOUTH CHANGE. But Doc will be very much like Francona, loyal to a fault. Which will drag this team down to the basement. It is too bad because they have potential when YOUTH is infused fulltime....

Re: OPEN YOUR EYES, MR. AINGE!

Sometimes youth is great.  The energy is great to watch.  but sometimes youth kills you.....witness the 4th quarter of the first Cleveland game.  Doc went with them too long and by the time the rest of the starters came back, the lead was almost gone and they were not able to recover.  We lost, of course.

This team needs youth but more so, we need rebounding underneath.  The question is......who's going to give us a top rebounder from a good team?  That's a valuable commodity and its unlikely anyone will give up a great rebounder (and don't say Amare - he's not the definition of a great rebounder).

Ainge is going to have to be patient and let Ray's and KG's and JON's and Shaq's salaries come off the books and go after someone in free agency or pursue a trade using his draft picks.   Hope he gets someone good!
In Response to Re: OPEN YOUR EYES, MR. AINGE! : For example, a team like Detroit has 2 players with bad contracts, Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. If Detroit wants to shed those contracts they can offer the Celtics their lottery pick, Ben Gordon, and Charlie V. The Celts then give Detroit their player or players with expiring contracts on draft night. A Ray and JO for Ben Gordon and Charlie V trade works.

To commit to $42m over the next 2 years to two lousy players just to get a lottery pick is not good for Boston. That would leave Boston only $3m to $5m under the salary cap. They would then have not much more then the veterans minimum to sign players including KG and Ray if they want them back.

As a big time Uconn fan, I have followed alot of Uconn alumnus in NBA.  They both are a good players, but Joe Dumar isnt going to take J.O.!!!!   He want to rebuild the team, and rather to ask the Celtics to give them a draft picks!!!

Re: OPEN YOUR EYES, MR. AINGE!

Ask yourself what you do if you're Doc and Danny.  Play the vets and maybe get a mid-level playoff seed? Or play the young guys, see what you have, develop their talent and maybe their trade value and get a better pick in the draft?

The Celtics are in that awkward spot of not truly being a contender but they haven't committed to blowing things up either.  I am not sure what the goal is this year other than to compete and win as many games a possible.

This squad cannot compete for the title, it's just good enough to keep us interested. Some of the vets are sulking a bit because they know they are not built to win it and things like playing time is becoming an issue.

I think trading Ray should be looked into but not for this Piston package.

We would need to do better.
In Response to Re: OPEN YOUR EYES, MR. AINGE! : That's just an example. Joe Dumars can't rebuild with Charlie V and Gordon's contract still on the Pistons' payroll. JO has an expiring contract too, just like Ray. And the Pistons already have a bunch of young players that have the potential to become very good players. Monroe, Knight, Daye, Jerebko, and Stuckey are young players that the Pistons can build on. The Pistons don't need more draft picks, they're already a very young team.
    Posted by Fiercest34
Then why Detriot arent getting any better in the past three years?  I just think these young players are not as good as they all thought.  Players that they should get rid of are Stuckey, Daye and either Villaneuva or Jerebko along with Prince too.  Jerebko and Villaneuva are a simular players where they both like to shoot long jumper.  Cant have simular guys on the roster.  Need to have two different type of players for each position.

So anyway, Detriot is more likely to keep rebuilding for the next one to two years until they have the right core of players like they had in the past with Billups, Hamilton, two Wallace guys, etc.
