Not sure if Id had voted for Satch for HOF.

Hes got the rings, thanks to Russ mainly... Satch was another defensive specialist... translation - had very little offensive game.

On any other team, Satch wouldnt sniff HOF..  but he was a Celtic staple with his skinny body, knee pads and the rest.

He was Elected as a Contributor. His numbers are very similar to the Worm. He was also enshrined for his 20 years as founder president of the Rookie Transition program and player development program. He is very Hall worthy as player and contributor

Congrats Satch, my first game live was your last.  Unfortunately, you didn't get off the bench.   1972 - NYK 92 BOS 78 - ECF......:(

Re: Our newest Celtic Hall of Famer

I have to take exception to the post saying Satch had very little offensive game.  For 9 straight years he averaged between 10.2 and 12.6 ppg.  True, he was never the focal point of the offense but these were excellent numbers for a guy who was never more than the fourth or fifth option.  He made the opponent pay for focusing on Cousy, Henishon, Havlicek and Sam Jones.

Sanders's calling card was of course his defense.  Jerry West in his book "Mr Clutch" written in the early '70's said that Satch was the best defensive forward he had ever seen (he also said that KC Jones was the top defensive guard and Russell was the best defensive player, period).  There was a good reason why he was a starter all those years: he was an essential part of 8 title teams

I was too young to see Satch in his prime but I recall the 1972 season when Satch was inserted into the starting lineup about 20 games into the season and a .500 club ended up winning 56 games.  The guy's numbers  were not impressive that year (his next to last) but he obviously knew how to play the game.

I'm really happy to see Satch get the recognition that is long overdue.

Congratulations Tom Sanders.  It couldn't have happened to a classier gentleman.

Congratulations Satch!  You are a true class act and richly deserve this honor.  I only wish I was around to see you and your teammates in action back then.

Re: Our newest Celtic Hall of Famer

I was fortunate enough to see Satch play many times at the Garden and he was actually my favorite player of them all, including KC, Sam and Bill.

I was honestly surprised to see his name as a HOF candidate...but well deserved and Congrats!
