Parsons Available (RFA)?

Rockets Formally Inform Chandler Parsons Of Declined Team Option
    Jun 28, 2014 2:59 PM EDT

The Houston Rockets have officially informed Chandler Parsons that they will decline his team option for next season, thus making him a restricted free agent.

The Rockets have stated they hope to re-sign Parsons.

Parsons would have been an unrestricted free agent in 2015 if the Rockets had picked up the option.

Houston is the only place I hear where it is even possible Lebron and Carmelo could be together. They have made the cap space.  Parson won't be in their plans if that is the case.  Of course Lebron is staying in Miami. The odds are same for Love coming here.

    C. Parsons career averages - 16-pts, 4-assists, and 5.5-rebs per game!

That's bad news for Celtic fans.

    Because he's a RFA.

Meaning the Rockets can match any offers.

So if the Rockets don't get Melo or Lebron, the Rockets will just re-sign Parsons.
Timing is everything! If LJ and or Melo string their self-love tour out - AND - Houston tries to put Parsons on ice - He could simply say "see ya"

That would be true if Parsons is an UFA.

    But he's a RFA.

    Rockets can match any offers.
Make him a quick offer on day 1 of FA period - Rockets won't be able to match -AND - make a run at LJ and Melo!

Wow - I had no idea Parson was only making $950,000! Somebody is getting a raise!!

    Go get him Danny!

Besides, the Celts already offered AB the QO, so the Celts don't have cap space to make a significant offer for Parsons.
DA would have to get creative - make some trades!

Very unlikely because in a trade, the Celts would also have to take back a contract or contracts in return.
Not if they trade a player to a team with cap room.... this is elementary and you spoke in an absolute???

They would HAVE to take back a contract?

What contract did the Rockets get back from the Pelicans in the Asik trade?

    Doh! Fiercy messed up again.

Don't we already have a SF who is putting up nearly identical numbers? Parsons ain't putting us over the top. He a complimentary piece. We already have such pieces. What we lack is a star centerpiece. Acquiring a star (or trading away some of our older complimentary pieces) should be the focus at this point.

Big difference between Parsons and Green - Parsons brings it every night!

I am guessing almost any team out there would like to add a player like C. Parsons to their roster - Green not so much!

For what we would have to pay Parsons, i would just as soon stay with Green.  When Green brings his A game, he's a much better player than Parsons.  Yeah i know, he doesn't bring his A game enough, well maybe next season he will.

Parsons becoming a restricted free agent can be nothing but GOOD NEWS for Celtics fans. Wake up!

The alternative was the Rockets picking up a 900k option on him in which he was both super cheap for a year and harder to match salaries with in a trade for. If the Rockets Melo/LeBron fantasies fall flat then Parsons becomes a sign and trade option.

It is not like this move by Houston was them declining a QO and making him unrestricted right now. Duh!

The Rockets gave Asik away for a pick to a team that could absorb his salary, bringing no salary back in the transaction.

This is something Fiercy doesn't understand b/c he says all trades involve some salary coming back. But that is not the point. The Rockets still only have 7-8 million in cap space after that. They need to trade Lin and his disgusting 15 million salary in any move to upgrade with a starter.

I think people would rather be locked into 4 years of Parsons for his age 26-29 years at 10-11 million a year than deal with 1-2 more years of the frustrating Jeff Green at 9m a year.

If Green has another year like 2014 he probably picks up his option, so we will have had two frustrating years of Green post Paul Pierce providing 3 win shares and a 13 PER over Parsons likely improving slightly on the 7 WS's and 15 PER he puts up.

If Green improves to put up lets say a healthy Luol Deng season (17/6 with a 15-16 PER and 5-6 win shares) he will likely opt out of his final year and demand the 4/48 type contracts Deng, Parsons, Hayward and Batum signed, or will be signing. Then we'd have another Mark Blount 'was this a contract year or the new Jeff Green?' decision to make.

I'll take Parsons now for 4/44 in exchange for Green in a heartbeat despite his worse defense.

    Re: Parsons Available (RFA)?

Not sure the Rockets have enough to offer us for Rondo, but being as that is one of the few teams he would likely sign an extension with we can see what their best offer is.

Rockets --> Rondo, Green and Faverani (24 million)

Celtics --> Lin's expiring, Parsons signed and traded at 4/44, Motienjuans, the rights to Clint Capela their 25th pick in the draft, their 2015 1st rd pick and a 2017 1st rd pick (only if Rondo signs an extension). Like 27 million.

Rockets will be happy to role with a Rondo-Harden-Green-Jones-Howard starting 5. Green's defense (when he is motivated obviously) could help cover for Harden's lack of D better than Parsons could. A Beverly-Daniels-MLE-Faverani bench is solid, depending on what forward they can get for the MLE.

Celtics go full-on rebuild with this trade. The fans get a younger SF than Green who won't drive them crazy and will hit nearly 40% of his 3's. Capela will be sold as that athletic rim protector perfect to pair with scorers like Sully and Oly and there is a future pick or two involved on no more Rondo drama.
