Paul Pierce as a sixth man????

    CelticsHub: Pierce as Sixth Man?

Our friends and TrueHoop partners at CelticsHub kick around the thought of bringing Paul Pierce off the bench amidst Boston's recent struggles:
It was just a notion Danny Ainge threw out after the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs last spring, but it makes some sense for Boston to move Paul Pierce to the sixth man role and startMickael Pietrus
There are a number of reasons why this might work but the prime one is that the Celtics desperately need to fire up their offense. It’s 14th in the league right now, its brief dalliance with the top-10 probably permanently a thing of the past. What’s more, moving Pierce opens up a number of other possibilities to make this team more efficient.

Forsberg's thoughts: It's not like the idea of shaking up the starting lineup is far-fetched -- just the other night Doc Rivers shifted Brandon Bass onto the first unit, moving Jermaine O'Neal to the bench in a move he said will become more regular moving forward. And while Pierce is struggling as he tries to work himself back into game shape after a heel injury sidelined him for much of camp, bringing him off the bench probably creates as many problems as it fixes. Let's remember that when Ainge tossed out the idea of Pierce (or Ray Allen) coming off the bench, he was thinking of ways to get Jeff Green more minutes. It's not like the Celtics are looking to get Mickael Pietrus and his recovering right knee up to 30 minutes per game. Plus, Boston's biggest concern right now is slow starts and not sure that messing with the chemistry of the first unit (something decried in the Kendrick Perkins deal) is the right path (even if it could offer a temporary spark). Ultimately, it's on Rivers to tinker with his rotations and find ways to get more consistency out of guys like Garnett and Pierce, and on the players to start playing better basketball.

Bottom line: It's not time to make a panic move ... yet.

Pietrus cannot handle the ball as Paul did.  They will swarm him and he will not be able to pass out of it effectively.

Jermaine O'Neal needs to be sat down and kept out of games.

I like the idea. If green were healthy I'd love it. Rondo is clearly at his best in transition and he needs someone to run with him. not to mention our second unit needs scoring and it would be great to watch Pierce feast on a backup small forward.
