    Point guards dn't win titles.

Teams with good point guards never win titles.

So pretend magic Johnson or Isiah thomas or Bob Cousy never existed. Pretend one Ray Allen Three didn't stop Tony Parker from winning one.

Magic never won a title without Kareem, Parker without Duncan. Two of the best six or seven players of all time. Cousy is ancient NBA history.

Isiah is the best example. On the other hand Oscar Robertson never won one. Chris Paul never has either. Nor did Jason Kidd, or John Stockton, or Gary Payton, all of whom are on the all time list and pretty high up as well.

There's no doubt an elite shooting guard or elite center is more important to a champsionship team than a point guard. Because someone like Lebron can take over the ball handling responsbilities.

If Chris Paul hasn't won one, Rondo isn't on his own either.

Paul Pierce win a title without Garnett? Bird without Mchale? James without Wade and Bosh? Kobe without Gasol or Shaq? Shaq without Kobe or Wade? Jordan  without Pippen?

    NO ONE WINS ALONE.

Kidd did win one with Dallas.  It wasn't during his prime, and he didn't score a lot of points that season, but he was the point guard for the team.

Oscar won one with the Bucks.  With Kareem, or was it Alcindor.

    The point is well made.

    Big men win championships.

Lebron, Duncan, Russell, Garnett, Wilt, Kareem, etc...

    And yes, Laimbeer and Mahorn.

So say it loud say it proud.

Who was more responsible for Detroits championships?

Thomas and Dumars the two hall of famers? Or Laimbeer and Mahorn the "big men"

Remember it is best to say nothing and be thought of as a fool then to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Also the Bulls won A LOT of championships with mediocre big men.  Unless you think Longley and Wennington were more repsonsible for championships then Jordan and Pippin.

    Which you might.

Hey you forgot Dennis Rodman. I dont think they would have won on single championship without Rodman, best rebounder and defender...I am with Chris on this one. PG's dont win championships. It favors a good Forward or Center.

since 1980, the finals MVP has been a guard 16 times, a forward 8 times, and a center 10 times, and that's if you count duncan as a center every time. just FYI.

but i tend to agree with the school of thought that if you have a big 3, it doesn't really matter what positions they play. rondo paired with 2 all-star caoliber players, regardless of position, would make a very good team.

In the past, I think Big Men DID win Championships but the NBA is starved right now for QUALITY/STAR Big Guys {Howard would have been a reserve on good 80's teams}. That being said, I think it has put more emphasis on the other positions and Point Guard is obviously one of those positions. IMO, the game now is centered more around quality Small Forwards and stretch PF and Centers who space the floor. And honestly, Championships in any era have really been won by Stars that can take games over by scoring and they come from various Positions....We do not have one of those guys and our record shows it.

Like a few posters are pointing out, its all about ALLSTARS that can score. And if one or 2 of them is 6'9" or taller,so much the better. Since the 1990's the ball handling skills of the players have gone off the chart. Beating your man off the dribble has made the individual assist nothing more then a stat for the home town fans  to cheer about.
