[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Predictions-Celtics lineup next year : Teams that start free-agency under the cap can't go over the cap even to sign their own FAs. 3. How much cap room do we have next year? With a $61 million cap and only $30 million committed, does that mean we can spend $31 million? Like with everything else related to the CBA, the answer is somewhat complicated. First, to get cap room in the first place, we have to "renounce" each of our free agents. Essentially, until we do so, a "cap hold" is placed on our salary cap, representing somewhere between 105% and 250% of the player's previous salary.  Jeff Green's  cap hold, for instance, is $11,139,970, representing 250% of his last year's salary. Cap holds eat into available salary cap space until such time as a free agent is renounced. http://www.celticsblog.com/2012/1/27/2752081/how-much-money-do-we-have-for-free-agents-anyway Looks like you got schooled again for the nth time today, wingnut!

The cap will be approx $61 million, they have almost $35 million committed given that Bass has a player option - so unless he can get more than $4million per year he is part of the $35 million committed.  They will draft several players and it will add approximately another $4 million.  That will leave about $22million available to lure vastly overpaid and overrated players to add to a poor core in an effort to perpetuate mediocrity, so they have 6 players under contract, they will add 3 or 4 in the draft, so they will have to add either 5 or 6 players for $22 million.....

In Response to Re: Predictions-Celtics lineup next year:
[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Predictions-Celtics lineup next year : 4. With $25 million, can we sign  Dwight Howard ?  Deron Williams ? Both? The most we can offer either Howard or Deron in the first year of a new contract is 30% of the cap, or around $18.3 million. Each could earn slightly more in their first year via a sign-and-trade, but it's pretty safe to say that both will earn between $18 million and $20 million on a max deal. Therefore, it's possible that we could sign one, but it's unlikely we could get both. The only way that is realistically possible is if we included Rondo in a sign-and-trade to either Orlando or New Jersey. 5. Okay, so we sign Howard, and have $5 million in cap room. Now what? We would be able to fill out our roster with that $5 million. In addition, we'd be able to sign a free agent with a "room exception" of $2.5 million per year, for up to two years. Also, we could sign players to minimum salary contracts. 6. Once we've spent up to the cap, can we sign our own free agents with Bird Rights? No. Once a free agent is renounced, Bird Rights are permanently extinguished. At that point, you can only sign free agents with cap room, or to minimum contracts. That means that if we signed Dwight Howard, it's likely that we wouldn't have the money to afford either Jeff Green or Brandon Bass. 7. What about the MLE? The bi-annual exception? Teams with cap room have to renounce the MLE / LLE just like they would a free agent. We wouldn't be able to use either of these exceptions next year. http://www.celticsblog.com/2012/1/27/2752081/how-much-money-do-we-have-for-free-agents-anyway BUELLER YOUR AZZ! HA HA

My two latest Rondo trades are:
    1.  Rondo, Moore and JJJ for Conley and Mayo
My reasoning - PG is a wash, MEM will not re-sign him  - get him for the qualifying offer, then worry about it later.  MEM will get something for him, replace a starter with a starter and get two bench/role players.
    2.  Rondo for Millsap - Utah wants to get rid of Devin Harris, and give playing time to the younger forwards.  This would then allow us to sign Mo Williams, who I don't think wants to come off the bench next year.
Can still give a max to Kaman or McGee or Hibbert, and sign Green.  Bass will hopefully stay.....and draft well.
    Williams/Bradley
    ??/Ray
    PP/Green
    ??/Bass/JJJ
    Kaman or McGee or Hibbert/Steamer

I think KG will retire- just a hunch!

The Memphis deal I am pretty sure leaves us materially worse.

The Utah trade makes no sense with a rebuild coming.  Just my opinion.

If we are going to have in depth salary cap discussions, etc. can we at least go with one basic premise that is so obvious but apparently incomprehensible to most posting here?

THE BEST YOUNG PLAYERS WANT TO GO AND PLAY WITH THE BEST YOUNG PLAYERS....  therefore, D Will and D H are not coming here to play with a bunch of no names....

So if we can go with that basic premise then we can start talking about Danny pulling a Dumars and adding a couple of overpaid, overrated players that he will profess to us as the stars that will be the cornerstone of the next generation of Cs....  so Danny will add players like Gordon and Charlie V and add them to Rondo and Pierce and they will be contenders.... and they will win 35 games and Danny will ride off into the sunset and work on his handicap.... and set the team back 5 years.

[QUOTE]We arn't signing Howard to $15M ... I propose signing Howe & Humpries for $15M If Ray & KG are renounced then immediately signed for $5M each while under the cap then we sign our own FA's once over the cap. If KG, Ray, Green, JON & Wilcox are all renounced the cap hold will be reduced from $68M to $8M .... Hahaha but those are last years figures right Fierce? LOL http://www.hoopsworld.com/boston-celtics-team-salary Apparently you admit to being wrong about the cap hold salaries now ... LOL Once Ray & KG are signed ($10M) along with Hawes & Humpries ($15M) then we sign Beasley via a S&T (Daniels, Pav & Dooling) which nets out an add'l $4M putting us at the cap. Bass, Pietrus, Stiemsma & Green will cost about $15M over the cap and the $2.5 exception gets us another PG or SG unless as I said earlier we get NBA-Ready players via the draft. Only 1st round picks count against the cap ... 2nd rounders can be signed last, once over the cap.

    Wrong again.
In order to get to the cap limit with free agent signings, Boston would have to renounce the rights to ALL of their remaining free agents. So, if Bass/Green/KG etc are still in that group, they can only be re-signed with the room exception or vets min. Once a player is renounced, for the 100th time, the team loses their Bird Rights.

Regardless of the rules are there any scenarios where they add players where they are anything other than pretenders that have deluded themselves into thinking they are still contenders and do anything other than perpetuate the mediocre level they are currently stuck in?
