In Response to Re: Racism in Boston that Bill Russell Despised:
Koberulz, Laker nation How is boston racist WHEN THEY HAVE A BLACK GOVERNER..... HOW was he overwhelming elected???....HES black...right...so according to you...people from mass dont like blacks...but we have a BLACK GOVERNER.....SO your proved wrong...BOSTON is NOT RACIST NOW.. Places like LA are more racist...We in boston dont have black vs. mexican gang wars or black vs. white race wars like what happened with OJ.... Russell loved playing for RED...Russell is writing a book about RED and The Celtics....Russell liked the city...The issue he had was with the media.... RED is the celtics..... So if russell hated boston why does he like red..... ussell once said, “Whenever I leave the Celtics locker room, even heaven wouldn’t be good enough because anyplace else is a step down.” As with the championship Knick teams I played on in the ’70s, the bond among players lasts a lifetime. You share with them the memories of being young and on the road in America, playing a game you love, performing before the crowd, and proving yourself to your teammates and yourself. You never forget your teammates’ loyalty and how you returned it in full measure, and how that trust and mutual respect allowed you to be a champion. Bill Russell is a private, complex man, but on the subject of his love of Red Auerbach and his Celtic teammates, he’s loud and clear. He might object to my use of the word “love,” but deny it though you will, Mr. Russell, that’s what sits at the heart of this beautiful book.

In Response to Re: Racism in Boston that Bill Russell Despised : Until you can claim to have lived in the '50s and '60s anywhere in the U.S. you cannot comment on racism back then.  There are a lot of current NBA citiies Russell would have found repugnant back then -- and rightfully so.  Times change.  The Red Sox had a racist ownership. No African-American would have dared walk through South Boston.  The antics of Louise Day Hicks embarrassed everyone.  That's in the past.  And by continuing to bring it up, you are making no point whatsoever.  Go and watch your Rodney King videos. And grow up while you're at it.

    Laker trolls,

    Here are russells thoughts..

HERES SOME QUOTES FROM RUSSELL HIMSELF....

While Russell still has sore feelings towards the city, there has been something of a reconciliation;[82] and he has even visited the city on a regular basis in recent years, something he never did in the years immediately after his retirement.[82]

Perennially wary of the "racist" city of Boston, Russell decided to make amends and gave his approval. On May 6, 1999 the Celtics re-retired Russell's jersey in a ceremony attended by Russell's on-court rival Chamberlain, along with Celtics legend Larry Bird and Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The crowd gave Russell a prolonged standing ovation, which brought tears to his eyes.[83] Russell was visibly shaken at this outpour of adoration. He thanked Chamberlain for taking him to the limit and "making [him] a better player" and the crowd for "allowing [him] to be a part of their lives."[56]

MORE EVIDENCE: Boston, the only city in America where transportation and school resources are unevenly distributed, and racial epithets can still be heard on the streets.

("Anyone who’s from here knows that you take the Red Line if you’re going to a white enclave and the Orange Line if you’re going to a black one." Especially handy advice if you are heading for the notoriously white enclave of Ashmont.)

How embarassing to live in such a horrible town. I bet there are KKK meetings in most downtown pubs. Simply pathetic!

Boston, where racism and backward thinking thrive. Sad and pathetic!Surprised

DoctorCO, I lived in Boston for 2 years and could not have been happier the day that I left for California, where the weather is nicer, the girls are hotter, and the greatest NBA franchise continues to thrive. Cool

Here's the reason why Bostonians prefer to live in Boston.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots

The 1992 Los Angeles Riots or South Central Riots, also known as the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest[1][2][3] were sparked on April 29, 1992, when a jury acquitted three white and one hispanic Los Angeles Police Department officers accused in the videotaped beating of black motorist Rodney King following a high-speed pursuit. Thousands of people in the Los Angeles area rioted over the six days following the verdict.[4]

Widespread lootingassaultarson and murder occurred, and property damages topped roughly $1 billion. In all, 53 people died during the riots and thousands more were injured.[5]
