I would think they'd get better offers (as they already have) but if they haven't acted by the deadline they could have few options available and be forced to keep him or do a cap swap for whatever they can get. Otis is gambling on him staying if they keep winning but if DH says he's still gone at season end the Otis will find himself in a box with few exits.

DH could get a five year max deal from Orlando and they could swap him for KG and whatever and get cap relief with picks or players if that's what they think is best for them.

Fierce ... what's your game? What are you trying to prove? I said you may be right about the extension but that didn't estoppe a deal from being done for a max contract.
Now you keep referencing an article that you have no idea what the point is about. It's not saying that DH can't reup for a max contract only that he doesn't have the leverage that Carmelo had cause Carmelo could get 5 years no matter what.
If you are so sure that a trade followed by a Bird Rights 5 yr contract can't be executed at the end of this season then post a link that says precisely that otherwise post your schoolgirl cut & pastes to yourself all night.

Only a few teams have the players to match up in a S&T that would interest Orlando so they could opt for cap space and picks/rookies over other offers if the right players aren't included. |

Wrong! You may be right that Orlando can't do an extension to his existing contract and then trade him but DH can opt out of his PO and resign with his new team if traded with bird rights by the deadline. If Orlando doesn't trade him by the deadline then only they can renew his contract for five years at the max.
