Break-up in Beantown?
As you've likely heard, the breakup of the Celtics may be sped up soon.
Yet for all the talk of Boston point guard Rajon Rondo possibly being traded, some league executives have shooting guard and free-agent-to-be Ray Allen pegged as the most likely to be moved. Sources say the Clippers are interested, having lost Chauncey Billups to season-ending injury and lost out to New York in the J.R. Smith sweepstakes.
But the price is likely too high, as Boston wants a package that includes a young talent and a draft pick. The Clippers don't have the latter component, though, and there's a bit of irony involved as to why.
Their 2012 first-round pick went to Oklahoma City in a deal for point guard Eric Bledsoe, and was then moved to Boston in the trade that sent center Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder. The Clippers also had Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-rounder, but gave it to New Orleans in the Chris Paul trade.
Even with his age (36), Allen would be a difference maker for any team looking to add offensive firepower. The NBA's all-time 3-point champion is shooting a career-high 48.6 percent from beyond the arc (third in the league) while averaging 14.8 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting overall.
The Celtics (18-17) are still in playoff position, and they have some incentive to not fall too far this season no matter what moves are made since the aforementioned pick from the Clippers is top-10-protected until 2016. Boston also has its own 2012 first-round pick as well.

If the Clips offer DeAndre Jordan then Ainge would definitely do the deal.
This is Ainge's chance to correct his mistake by passing on Jordan in 2008. Ha Ha

assuming he makes shots and doesn't fall into a shooting slump. let's not forget that we won our title with ray in the midst of a horrible shooting slump.

Clips don't need Ancient #2, they have enough talent to make a real shot at the championship without trading for a one dimensional player. Let Ray retire as a Celtic....
let him Dannnnyyyy!

i feel like they are more likely to offer Kenyon Martin. if we want DeAndre WE will have to add someone to the mix, hopefully someone like Stiemsma.

they won't offer their young center for an old ray allen. we could still deal with them, but atlanta is a tempting trade parter as well. josh smith would be a good add, as has been discussed in other threads.

Ray did get hot at a convenient time but he killed us round 2 vs Cavs. PJ, Pierce and KG won that series all and all. Add a few Rondo triples in game 5 (when he was an even worse shooter.... yuck!). I think going head to head with rival Rip Hamilton woke him up in the conference finals

Kenyon Martin for Ray Allen is a joke. Ainge would be crazy to take him. He is barely 6-9.

Clippers are starting to falter. Let them falter, do not help them get better.
They could have the 19th-20th pick if they continue to slide and lose faith. That's better than 25-28. Having two top 20 picks would be really nice for the Celtics.
Let somebody else make the Clips better. Whatever benefit the C's receive will be offset by lower draft position.
Danny Granger went one pick ahead of Gerald Green in the low teens. Draft position means as much as anything to the Celtics future.

CBA rules prohibits the Clips from trading Kenyon Martin this season. In other words, Kenyon Martin cannot be traded because he just signed a contract with the Clips in February.

That is not looking at the big picture.
If the Celtics get a 7-footer like DeAndre Jordan then there's no need to draft a Center in the upcoming draft anymore.
DeAndre Jordan is a starting Center in the NBA. If we can get him for Ray Allen it's a no-brainer.

Josh Smith is a better player than DeAndre Jordan, it's going to take more than just Ray Allen to get J-Smoove.
The Hawks also already have Joe Johnson locked up for a very long time. So why would the Hawks need Ray Allen, a SG?

Perfect point! Let the Clips falter. Danny needs to work a way to get Josh Smith. Ray, draft picks, whatever. I don't care much about DeAndre Jordan. He is an offensive liability, and afer losing Ray, the Celts will be a worse team offensively. Also, the cap space reduces. Just doesn't make sense.

The Hawks want KG for Josh Smith.
Why would the Hawks want another SG when they already have Joe Johnson locked up for a very long time?

I think we need to lay to rest the clippers trading their ONLY center for Ray Allen

OK. But Ray for DeAndre Jordan still does not make any sense. Perhaps can work on a multi team trade for Josh Smith. Or perhaps it will not happen.

I also like the idea of Josh Smith playing alongside KG and running with Rondo.

Check out Jordan's minutes since Kenyon Martin joined the Clips.
You don't see Jordan playing in the last 5 minutes of a game, it's now Kenyon Martin and Blake Griffin.
Blake Griffin is the Clips' best big man. He's averaging 11 boards per game and he's their go to guy. So unlike the Celts, the Clips are not a poor rebounding team and the Clips don't have a problem scoring inside.
DeAndre Jordan is also very limited offensively. His points usually comes from lobs and putbacks. That's fine if he's only being paid 7-8 per year, but he's a 10.7m per year guy, that means he's overpaid.

Not only does it not make sense, the Clips would not do Ray for DeAndre....if they trade DeAndre, they lose all of their inside defensive presence... it would be an absolute steal to get him but even the Clips arent that stupid..... Plus trading DeAndre would p i ss of the fans because he is really popular here.... and it would make Griffin really made because he and DeAndre are best friends....

The NBA is not about friendship.
Just look at the Clipper record since Billups went down.
Jordan is just popular right now because the Clips are a winning team this year.
The reason why the Clips are struggling right now is because they lack scoring. Caron Butler is underachieving and Randy Foye is not getting it done.
If you think about it, does a team that has Griffin and CP3 really need to pay a player 10.7m per year when he only scores on lobs and putbacks and only shoots 48% from the FT line?
