I'd trade RR to the Kings for their #8 pick before the Lakers ... You turncoat!
Trading Rondo to the Lakers for Nash and their lotto pick was an idea of mine from way back in the beginning of the season. Now that we are not top 3 it is an idea worth discussing again and doesn't make anyone a turncoat.

It would essentially be Rondo for Marcus Smart since one of our two picks would be Smart. The other would be whoever is left between Gordon and Vonleh.

I would go so far as to include the Clippers 2015 pick (LA will be out one next year) if they send back Kendall Marshall (he may be needed to make the $ work anyhow).

Re: Rondo for a lotto pick?

Couldn't you see the Lakers Signing guys like Gasol (2/20) Hill (1/7) and Kaman (1/5) back, still leaving them enough cap space to sign Paul Pierce?

    Kaman

    Gasol

    Pierce

    Kobe

    Rondo

A bench of Hill, Nick Young, Meeks and a MLE signing at SF/PF

Not that that team would do anything more than be a second round playoff team, but it would get their fans excited and Kobe exited.

Then their goals would need to be the cap space to sign Love after 2015 or 2016 (if he goes somewhere and doesn't sign an extension or just picks up the option) and Durant after 2016 when Kobe's albatross deal comes off and Bryant plays 1-2 more years on the cheap.

because any deal would have to require Rondo's agreement to a long term extension, the only possibility i see is the Lakers. Rondo for Nash, pick #7, 2018 1st round swap option, and 2019 #1.

Kobe will be long gone by the time 2018-19 roll around potentially giving Boston a couple lottery picks.
After that you swap Jeff Green+Nash to OKC for Reggie Jackson+pick 21+Perk+Thebeet to make the #s work.

I believe OKC would do this to have legit third scorer again and Durant's best buddy JG back. Nash would give them veteran leadership off the bench and only need to play limited minutes behind Westbrook, also gives them a different option for playing style. And Steven Adams has really taken the role of Perk moving forward, Im sure they would rather put that $ into two guys that will actually play.

We get a dynamic young PG who does a little bit of everything and deserves a chance to start somewhere, which he will never get in OKC. A pick that frankly the Thunder don't need, and the last year of Perks deal.

Draft Vohnleh 6, Gordon 7, Package 17 & 21 for the 14th pick try to get Stauskas, Saric, Lavine ...whoever falls.

    Reggie Jackson / Bradley / A. Gordon / Sully / Vonleh

    Bench: Pressey / Stauskas / Wallace / Olynyk / Bass / Perk / Thebeet / Chris Johnson / Fav

We would def. be in the lottery for the next year or two, but that team could be exciting to watch grow up together.  We would need to add shooters later although Stauskas could break out and become the deadeye two guard we would need to make Bradley into a six man or Tradebait.

The bigger question, would any viable free agent want to sign with Boston if Rondo wasn't here... not likely.

New England malaise after a long brutal winter runs deep.

What free agents want to sign here WITH Rondo?

The only free agents that probably have Boston in their top 5 are Bradley and Humphries...maybe.

The Lakers didn't just sign Kobe to a $48.5mil over 2 year contract to babysit Vonleh or get into fistfights with Marcus Smart. They would be desperate enough to appease Kobe by trading #7 for Rondo who Bryant completely respects.

The only people who truly know that answer are the player and his agent, anyone saying more than that is just people talking.

These players aren't idiots either, if you're a shooter than you want Rondo feeding you passes and disrupting opposing point guards.

The only place Rondo isn't a talent is on these boards where self hating New England fans mingle.  Players around the league respect him, even if you don't, and they have good reason to.

Agreed. Plus, Rondo makes them better but, not good enough to win a championship.  That keeps them out of the lottery. I would not give them any future picks though.

I think PP is going to the Clips.

    Regardless........

Rondo for Nash and the #7 pick, Nash retires, we trade Green for Asik.  Draft Gordon, Smart and Porzingis.

Offer deals to both Monroe and Hayward.................but we have to settle for Bradley and Bayless.

    Smart/Pressey

    Bradley/Bayless

    Gordon/Wallace/Johnson

    Sully/Bass/Oly

    Asik/Porzingis/Fav/Anthony

Try to trade Bass at deadline.

Well who are they? Who are the big name free agents itching to come to the 25 win Boston Celtics to play with Rondo and ummm... nobody?

Not once this season have I heard someone within or close to the Organization mention available free agent targets.  In fact 2 days ago Wyc Grousbeck said that if they can't swing a deal for a star this offseason that it will be "time to start playing the kids."  That is pretty telling that he knows that they have two options: Swing for the fences in a trade for a star, or dismantle it and start from scratch.  He knows they aren't in the running for any top flight free agents to just sign outright.

So because you personally haven't heard someone from within the organization mention free agent targets there must not be any?

You have a direct pipeline to Ainge do you?

Saying something with the fervor of unequivocal fact doesn't make it so.  Many other teams and many of his fellow players would like to play with Rajon Rondo.

Who? You haven't named one guy.  I'm just saying that holding onto Rondo and waiting for an all-star to decide to come here through free agency is just a non-option.  If we can't trade for 1 or two guys who will make this terrible team at least a decent playoff team then Rondo is going to walk.

You got to get something for him before he goes Kevin Love on us.

Kevin Love has to agree to a sign and trade or he will walk, he won't agree with a trade to Boston if Rondo isn't in the equation.  This is just a guess, but he has been languishing away in Minny for a while and he wants to win.  Rondo is a four time All Star, the players above all else know who is good.

Sorry Woz...don't hate myself, only Rondo...dude can't shoot, can't play D, can't protect a lead and close out games. Fact is Fact.  One other thing. If he's not dealt by the trade deadline he walks and never re-signs here.

Trading Rondo for LA's #7 pick or Sacramento's #8 pick is definitely a tempting possibility.......think of the other moving parts in these prospective deals......

    1. Steve Nash coming back from LA with Gerald Wallace going to LA.....

    2. Ben Maclamore coming to Boston

Wonder who Danny Ainge was talking to today ?

It would just be Nash and pick #7 for Rondo.

LA would in no way take Wallace as a part of that.

Re: Rondo for a lotto pick?

Love him or hate him, Rondo is our only draw for this franchise. The ONLY one we have. The only others I can think of would be the Boston Celtics franchise itself, or our GM who's among the top ranked. And I don't think they are a big enough draw for players to want to come play here. If we get rid of him, it's a clear sign that either the C's are afraid he'll walk, or it's time to start over with a completely clean slate. And if that's the case, get ready for many, many, many losing seasons folks. Probably looking at a 5-7 year playoff absence. We're back in "expansion" team territory. Title contention? Forget about it. So once again, love him or hate him, Rondo is a building block, and the ONLY one we have right now.
