Rondo was responsible for 35 points today. The same as usual

11 points and 12 assists = 35+ points  I'm tired of hearing Rondo played bad, against the Mavs, when guys missed open shots late.

notrade, I agree but, on the flip side, Rondo's performance is no better when Ray, Paul and KG are hitting their shots and his assist number jumps to 19 assists.  Since Rondo's primary job is getting assists, that success hinges on the guys hitting their shots (anamoly was yesterday vs Orlando).

Against the Mavs, Rondo made the same passes and put the ball exactly where Ray, Paul and KG like it -- however, they just did not hit their shots (hence 12 assists and it appears Rondo had a bad game).

Against Charlotte tonight, let's say Rondo makes the same passes as he did against the Mavs but Ray, Paul and KG are on fire.  Ray hits for 22, Pierce for 21 and KG 18, all shooting a high FG percentage.  Rondo gets 20 assists.

If Rondo plays the same way against the Mavs and Bobcats but Ray, Paul and KG are on fire against the Bobcats but have a bad shooting night against the Mavs, how is it that Rondo played better against the Bobcats (or bad against the Mavs)?

If Rondo has 32 assist opportunites per game but the guys hit their shots in one game versus another game, how does that translate into a better performance by Rondo?  It's Ray, Paul and KG, right?

no. bc the quality of shot is basically the same. its not like all of ray paul and kg's shots are jumpshots. lets remember that rondo sets these guys up for super easy layups, quick bunnies near the basket. of course they have jumpshots as well, but lets not act like they are all jumpshots. he sets them up for easy oppurtunities that anybody can make, which is why wen rondo is with the bench players like nate and von and baby he is still able to rack up assists, even with lower caliber players.

JamezHill24, very true, but Rondo sets them up (starters or bench) the same way night in and night out.  He sets them up with the same quality of shots each game, right?

However, jumpshot or layup, if Rondo is setting guys up but the guys are missing their shots, it falls on THEM, not Rondo.

Rondo doesn't make outstanding passes one night while making average passes the next.  So, in essence, Rondo does the same thing each night, makes the same deft passes every night that puts his teammates in great positions to make shots.  Is that correct?

Therefore, Rondo can perform at the same level each night but have varying results and THAT is because his performance hinges on the shooting of Ray, Paul and KG (and all).

If Ray, Paul and KG score 32, 23 and 18 points one night but 19, 16, and 12 the next, that's the difference in Rondo having 22 assists versus 11.  Correct?
