Also, if the Celts waive Pierce, the Celts can't re-sign him to a lesser deal because the Celts will lose his Bird rights.

Update, May 5: Pierce does not have a player option as reported above. We regret the error. If the Celtics waive Pierce, NBA rules appear to prevent him from being re-signed for one year.

THAT IS INTERESTING! WHAT DO YOU THINK?

There is a way to waive Pierce then re-sign him for less money. But that would mean KG has to retire.

Celts can go under the cap and re-sign Pierce if KG retires and Pierce gets waived.

This will be an interesting off season.  I don't see Pierce getting waived and KG retiring.

    It's time to move on.

I'm Pierce's #1 fan, but the time has come, that's life in the NBA.

Fierce, it is not about being sentimental and a fan.  I am a huge Rondo fan but I am not averse to seeing him traded to improve the team.  I just don't see the sense in these moves.  There are no free agents available.  Lottery is just that - lottery.  It is not a sure thing.  I don't see the hurry to gamble.  Let the next season play out, let KG retire and make use of the cap space.  If the lottery path goes bust, the Celts may end up losing Rondo and Green when they become free agents.

Rondo can't be traded until other teams will see he's 100% or close to 100%.

These moves will not make any sense because no matter what the Celts do, there will be no Banner 18 in the near future.

Remember, the Celts won a championship after having the 2nd worst record in the league in 2007.

And maybe you don't know, under new salary cap rules, teams that went over the salary cap for 3 straight years will be penalized. It's called repeater tax.

    Here:

Only teams that have been taxpayers in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 will pay it.

    http://www.welcometoloudcity.com/2013/2/20/4009174/nba-repeater-tax-and-the-trade-deadline-what-does-it-mean-for-the

If the Celts don't waive or amnesty Pierce, they will be in danger of entering repeater tax territory.

I thought that avoiding repeater tax was the reason why Danny signed so many vet. min. contracts.  Did they cross over last year?

Yes, the Celts were a team over the cap last season.

Remember, KG's salary last season was 21m.

No, I meant that the Celts were under the repater tax lip for the 2012-2013 season.  That is why they could use the full mid level exception.  Is that wrong?

No choice for Ainge but to dump Pierce. He can come back in a year and sign a 1 day deal to retire a Celtic.

From a business standpoint, Pierce and KG have to go. Keeping them for next season will hurt the organization financially.

The Celts are not yet in repeater tax territory. But if they keep KG and Pierce for next season, they will be in danger of becoming a "repeater".

The team is going to be

    horrible.

No one cares. People realize waiving Pierce who mean rebuilding.

Personally I like the amnesty Pierce and let KG retire for AJ and Amino

11 million would get you a nice Sign and Trade.
