Shaq played great at the beginning of the season, and JO played great in the playoffs.  Would have liked for it to work out differently, but injuries happen, and even more so to older players you gamble on.

shaq played great for 50 games til he got hurt. JON played very well in the playoffs. but their age didn't help us get any younger. our big 3 plus those 2 equals retirement home. lol

The worst injury of course was Rondo being cheap shotted by Wade which was again ignored and not revenged.

Not a super tough Celtics team.

And on top of that it's hard to lose a guy (Perk) that was a good role player and an important part of his team's defensive success.  Not having Shaq hurt this team, but trying to integrate new guys late in the season didn't help either.

Definitely agree with you.  It was a big gamble that Shaq could remain healthy for the entire season.  If Shaq had remained healthy, the Celtics probably would have ended the season the # 1 seed and had a much better performance in the playoffs.

I definitely agree with you about Perk and trading players so late in the season.  It is difficult to develop team chemistry this late in the season.

just in case nobody was paying attention to perk's output in the playoffs...... he's not exactly knocked them dead, even if off stat sheet intangibles.  he's had one, maybe two games of double digit rebounds and has looked brutally slow.

he would not have given us much more than that if he was still here.  conventional wisdom said that this guy, who was barely mobile enough before the surgery, would struggle to be as effective as he was..... well that was a correct assumption.

and if this was my team to coach, i would have put jeff green out there for a LOT MORE MINUTES than he got coming down the stretch and SERIOUSLY LIMITED Glen Davis' minutes so that knee tendon would heal up some.

But Doc is not a coach who goes with the flow very well when it's a new flow, so we had a spoonful of green here and a pinch of him here and never let Davis get enough rest.

So what you have now is that Green is just starting to find himself on this team as we are being shown the door = full blown idiocy.

Posted by aciemvp[/QUOTE]jeff green  yeah.. this will go down as ainge's BEST move along with that first rounder. seriously, perk would not have made that much of a difference. heat are freakishly athletic and younger. we had no shot once they got this juggernaut rolling. still not over though

Shaq is old as dirt.  He'd be better suited being a 'greeter' at Walmart.

Re: Shaq and JO worth it?

Let's not forget (because DA obviously did) that Shaq & JO were to be fill-ins and then complimentary players to Perk because Doc requested more size after the loss last year in game 7. So for that role, both served us very well until DA got greedy with their age & health and made 'the trade'.

Another big issue was the lack of love shown to TA because after he left and Marquis got injured, DA had to make ammends and seek out Green in the trade.

In the end, I bet DA regrets losing TA more than anything because he'll have to pay a lot more for Green to come off the bench next season (along with BBD) and he doesn't even fit in as well as TA.

i agree that it was absolutely stupid to let the guy who flustered lebron to pieces last year (and kobe) just walk away over a million or two.  TA was younger and athletic.  That's what the team is missing.

Did you notice how much fatter Shaq was? You don't sit Shaq since january and him eating cheeseburgers without exercise and expect him to be your savior. What is happening to your Celtics is definitely worse than what happened to the Lakers.

wellp, if you'd like to live that in your own little fantasy world in your parents basement then that's fine, but don't try to foist it upon us.  what utter trash!!  we struggled in a close game and your bunch of bozos got clocked by 40 points, with the finale being 300 pound bynum trying to sidewalk slam little 5 foot 8 jj barea who is half his size.  THAT"S CLASSY!!!

same with lamar- what a thing of beauty it is to watch those two braincells start fighting each other over the blood and oxygen supply and before you know it he's dividing by zero again and ejected- classssssy!!

get out of here with your trash.  your lakers disgraced phil jackson's final game and couldn't even try hard.  think about it- yep, it happened.  bynumb mailed it in, gasol with his girlfriend pouting, mailed it in.  just about everyone but kobe mailed it in and failed to understand how to lose with honor and class.

don't worry, we all recognize the stinking turde that the lakers made and you should just go off quietly and try to process it without trying to make it our fault or whatever your weak mission was in posting here.  you're a worse disgrace than bynum coming out with that junk!

What is happening to the Celtics is definitely worse than what happened to the Lakers?  Are you serious?  The Lakers were the #2 seed, the Mavs were the #3 seed.  The lower seed (Mavs) SWEPT the higher seed (Lakers) 4-0.  Not only that, the higher seed was completely brutalized in Game 4 by 36 points!!!

By contrast, the Celtics are the #3 seed, the Heat are #2.  Miami, being the higher seed, has homecourt advantage and they lead the C's 3-1 (yes, the series is not yet officially over).  Now, how can that be worse than what happened to your Lakers?

BTW, Rondo got his elbow dislocated during Game 3 and still managed to continue playing.  Odom and Bynum were both healthy and decided to punk around earning ejections in Game 4.  Now tell me which was worse?

I also agree that the resigning TA after the end of the season should have been a priority.  He is definitely missed by the current Celtics team and would have been a great help this year.

Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but that's a real good point you make there about Green getting more minutes down the stretch and using those minutes to also heal up Glen Davis.  It's just about all woulda coulda shoulda now, but what you said makes a whole lot of sense.
Celtics have tended to burn themselves out over the last 2 seasons.
Well, in anycase, all the Danny Ainge threads will probably start seeing soon will make for interesting reading.
