Wow..... posters love to put Perk on some sort of pedestal and wax poetic about how great he is and how he is great against Howard, etc.
Perk is on his absolute best day a journeyman center with absolutely no offensive game, a turnover waiting to happen. Think Eric Dampier without the ability to pass, shoot, make foul shots, and jump......
When he got hurt people went on and on about OMG what will the Cs do now - um, go get two centers off the scrap heap that when healthy are leaps and bounds better than Perk......
People love to say "he is great for this team" - that is a qualifier - as in he benefits more from whom he plays with more than just about any other player in the league other than his starting point guard...... the Cs would somehow be worse with Hibbert, Noah, either Lopez, Howard, Horford, either Gasol, Jason Thomspon, Spencer Hawes, Kaman, and so on and so forth........
Defense is very very very important but if you give up a little defense but your offense gets a lot better somehow that is a bad thing. Oh and maybe by playing with KG and for Doc their defense would get better without giving up any offense.
I believe that Bynum at about 50% in game one last year had 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks - has Perk ever had a game like that at 100%?
Perk will go down as one of the top 5000 centers that have ever played the game. Every single year there is at least one Perk drafted. I would not hesitate for a half a heart beat if Larry Bird went to Danny and said give me Perk for Hibbert. Of course most of the fans viewing the Cs through kelly green glasses would say I am on heroin but anyone with less than a third of a brain and at the same time a basketball fan would gladly have Hibbert, Noah, either Lopez, and any number of other centers instead of Perk.
I love when people put qualifiers on players so that it somehow justifies their position - when Perk came into the league it went something like this - Perk is one of the best young centers who have absolutely no offensive skills really bad footwork terrible hands terrible footwork turnover waiting to happen came right out of high school if he had gone to college he would only be a 4th year medical student who can't make foul shots who thinks he is Kareem / Hakeem....if you apply all of those qualifiers to the rest of the league - you arrive with a very limited pool that includes Perk...... give me either of the two guys that start in the Wiz frontcourt and I will be happy - so when you strip out the qualifiers and actually compare him to his peers, he is in his 8th year (a year in which he likely will not play very much) and he is marginally better today than he was when he arrived in Boston and his improvement has come largely as a result of #5, take #5 away and you see that he basically has no skills - if he was 5 feet 9 instead of 6 feet 9 he would be your typical unemployable illiterate.... Give Doc a year with Blatche, McGee, Jason Thompson, Hawes, and any number of other young front court players and guess what...... you say...... Perk who?
