Make what ever moves are necessary to have a shot at this kid! If you don't get him, at least the Cs tried to shorten their 10-15 year rebuilding process!

If we could get one of the top 4 picks we would be good, Jabari Parker, Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon, could all be very good to great players.  Next years draft will be very strong at the top!!

Then my thought is this.  Trade some pieces to this years puzzle and this years first for someone else's first next year.  That will give you two number one's next year.  That may give you two lottery picks next season.  Some of you think it's going to take 10 seasons to get this team back to being a contender.  I say ride out PP and KG this year and maybe trade them at the trade deadline for more draft picks to a deep draft in 2014.  This way you have many options going into the draft.  An expiring contract (pp) and Veteran talent to get a team over the hump, for future picks we can package to move up after the lottery is set if needed.  That will give us high picks in 2014's deep draft and a lot of cap space for some  big name free agents to go along with Rondo, Green, Sully and Bradley.

This way your letting a team we all care about ride it out for just one year.  It will also give the C's and the rest of the league another year for Melo to mature to see if he fits in our plans or somebody else's.

In other words, the Celts will get a super star and will be immediate contenders.  Right?  Well super stars don't get made in one day.  It takes time for the rookies to get the league sanction to not have fouls called on them and to not have traveling called on them.  Right now, the Celts need to have Jeff Green develop into a star.  Green still plays a pure game.  Watch him see how hard he avoids stepping, harder than any other player.  He need not.  He needs to develop a left hand a develop some border line traveling moves that will result in spectacular finish.

Getting a high draft pick will always be good.  But the current roster just can't tank enough to get there.  The last time the Celts had multiple lottery picks and the best chance to get a #1, they ended up drafting Chauncy Billups and Ron Mercer.  The next time, the three worst record holders got #4, 5 & 6 picks.

Prakash - why not reach for the brass ring? What are the other alternatives? Stand pat? Bring everyone back? Continue to select players in the middle of the 1st round? Hope an UFA wants to sign with the team during a year when cap space is available?

To your point, there is no such thing as a sure thing BUT according to many experts this kid is pretty darn close! Every once in a while an MJ, Magic, and Bird do come along! Not saying this kid is in their glorified air, but you never know!

To have a shot at AW, the Cs don't need to tank! They simply need to focus on developing their young players next season! Give RR a full year to recover!

Regarding JG, nice takes - I agree 100%

It makes you wonder if DA is thinking the same thing! Make a trade this year, to give the Cs 2-shots at the number one pick in 2014!

Could you imagine the C's striking gold and getting picks 1 and 2 in the 2014 draft! Happy days are here again!!!!!

Please be a student of history,  you cannot plan for the first pick.  The system does not allow it. You learned with Duncan and Oden and Durant.  Cleveland has been lucky,  in 2007 rather than be lucky we were smart and that is only thing we can do now.  Wiggins could drop in our lap and you could win the lotto.  You can't plan for it though.

Positioning a team for sucess is not a new concept! Ahhhh 2007 is your example - I believe the Cs were "smart" because they had a high draft pick (pick # 5 - JG)!

We did not get the number one pick either time.  What we did with the fifth pick is not the same strategy.   If we stink we could get a fifth pick, all I am saying is history tells you the odds are long on getting Wiggins.

That is why I titled the thread: "shot at A. Wiggins"! Case in point - if NBA teams knew what MJ was capable of in 1983 - do you think they would have positioned themselves to draft him in 1984 (rebuilding teams would - in 1984 the Cs and Lakers would not)?

I am not saying the Cs should tank the season OR A. Wiggins is MJ! The Cs are in a rebuild mode regardless - this is great timing on DAs part - at a minimum the Cs will likely get a shot at this kid!

Many who have seen A. Wiggins play - say he is that good!

Nobody is trading a 2014 1st that isn't at least top 3, prob top 5, protected, even for Rondo.

I'm all about trading everyone but Sully, Avery and (maybe) Melo, getting 3-4 1st rd picks this year in addition to obviously some expiring contract vets and Jordan/Bledsoe from the Clips and going for Wiggins.

I bet Rondo and Sully take their sweet time coming back....January for Rondo to prove he is healthy by the trade deadline...Sully late Feb...trade off as many of the Nets players  (plus Lee & Bass) as possible to free up cap space,

Phantom nagging-injuries could be the name of the game this season...nothing serious, something like nagging hammies, ankles etc. for Green, Bradley and others.

Give the youngest players lots of time to develop their game and evaluate at the NBA level.

This season could be epic in terms of their record in the quest for the top draft choice.

    Should start a pool for the projected W - L record for 2013 - 14.
