I've copied & pasted my post here from another post about Shaq. There are a couple of other posts about should we try & get him. I was in favor of it and continue to be so.A few negatives were that he's too old, not in shape, won't have the chemistry to fit in etc. Regarding being too old, he's not going to be required to play more minutes than our Big 3, the other older guys but regarding being in shape, I've read he's shed some pounds & looks like he's been on a very good training regiment. That, to me, shows some motivation he wants to play some more & play well & win a title. But what I really like and the Post was titled "Shaq wants to wear Green" and wanting to play with us is a big factor in how he'll perform.I was happy we beat the Cavs but if not I would love to have had them beat the Lakers & their MVP, Kobe. Regarding him fitting in with our guys, I remind you that he and Kobe were never good friends and wouldn't even shake hands sometimes after victories yet they won 3 titles together from 2000-2002. Shaq was MVP in all 3 and I'm sure Kobe was not pleased as he'd probably have passed Michael Jordan by now if he'd won 1-2 of them. Kobe, too, was influential in Shaq leaving the Lakers in an almost he go or I go ultimatum. Shaq went on and won another title with Miami. Kobe in an interview after this recent game 7 when asked about Shaq, said that he(Kobe) had one more ring than he had.Soooo, I'd love and I bet Shaq would too to face the Lakers & Kobe in the finals next year as a Celtic & win another Ring & keep Kobe from one tying MJ & also not winning another MVP. He'd probably too like beating his old teammate, LeBron, in the Eastern playoffs with Miami. -

how does he do defending dwight howard or pau gasol, or bynam ... ? if he's good at defending these guys and collecting major rebounds for 15 minutes a game, sign him right up - think for a minute about how Shaq playing 20 minutes during that last finals game could have evened out the rebounding edge the Lakers had. also, we need someone who can give rondo a great nick name, personally I'm starting to think of him as the big 9, as he gets better and the big 3 decline, but really Shaq names everyone and they stick. -

I think he'd be a good pick up for the Celtics if he did sign but being a Laker fan I would honestly lose all respect for him. No way he gets his jersey retired with the Lakers if he does that, that would be like Kevin McHale trying to win a championship with the Lakers at the end of his career. Yuck! -

VPG: If the Lakers don't retire Shaq's number, they're the big losers, not Shaq. And they will look awfully small. Okay with Shaq. What does he care?
When Kobe ran Shaq off, who were the losers? You guessed it. The Lakers! (And they looked awfully small then too.)

Contrary to popular belief Shaq ran himself out of town. Every year he showed up out of shape, and the Lakers made the right move by going with the younger talent instead of the older guy. Plus Shaq's not the lovable loaf he pretends to be,theres a reason hes still available, mainly because he burns bridges everywhere he goes and is known to be a cancer in the locker room.I dont know though, it might work out for the Celtics, Sheed worked out pretty well and he played his heart out in Game 7 -

Then, he won't get his number retired anyway...and being a bridge burner, I'm sure he doesn't care how many lakers fans lose respect for him in his later years. He's made 200 mill, he'll be in the HOF, he's one of the top 50 players of all time, yep, I'm sure not having him number retired by TheOldPerv will keep him up nights! -

Yeah Buss is an old horndog. I seen him in a casino before in LA and he had these 3 gorgeous brunettes around him. They couldnt have been any older than 20. -

I don't know how many of you all agree with this take on the ShaQ debate but here goes. The Celtics should sign Shaq or acquire him through a sign and trade with Cleveland as his presence in the middle would be a vitual guarentee return to the Eastern finals. Now the bad part of this post,I don't think it will happen just based upon monetary reasons. ShaQ still sees himself as a starting Center and feels he should be played and paid as such.,these two reasons may be the exact reasons why the Celtics won't sign or acquire him. -

In Response to Re: Should C's Sign Shaq? Poll:In Response to Should C's Sign Shaq? Poll : I believe the C's should do it. Shaq was told 3 years ago that he was not able to run and perform at a high level when he was in Miami, so they shipped him off to Phoenix ridding themselves (Miami) of his 2 year/40 Mil contract. People weren't so skeptical of his arrival in Phoenix, but he finished the season averaging 14/9 and he was 36 (07-08). The following year he averaged 18/8 (08-09). He had these #'s in Phoenix's Run & Gun Style Offense. We were not able to see the big fella play his full potential in Cleveland due the thumb injury he received dur to Baby's hack earlier in the year. So it's unfortunate that the most recent activity that you can use of the big fella is from the playoffs this past year. My point is this....He can run the fast break, as proven in Phoenix with Steve Nash & Co., and the attention that he would receive from double teams would open the lane for Rondo, PP, RA, even Nate to drive to the bucket or drive and kick to the available shooter (i.e., RA, Nate, PP, maybe T-Mac or Eddie House). The half court offense would suit him if he were coming off the bench, and I imagine Doc running the plays through him so that the ball could move around with more fluidity, i.e., Ball goes to the post, he backs down and kicks to RA, Nate, or slashing cutters all day to the basket! I use this example as RA was used alot with the second unit last season. He fits the MOLD and IDENTITY of the C's, age, wear & tear, heart, hustle, and exhibits a championship mentality. I see Sheed coming back for one more go around...with that being said, Shaq signs for the VT, and we will be stacked with bigs for the upcoming season, so hopefully I can say "Welcome To Boston Big Leprechaun!" Holla
Posted by voguerpNo He can't run the fast break. The suns missed the playoffs during the shaq era. They took the Lakers to 6 without him. Shaq's numbers are an illusion. He slows teams down clogs up the paint and plays lousy defense.
