Should we get SOMETHING for Pierce or should we amnesty him?

There have been a lot of discussions of trade assets being worth less and maybe just amnestying Pierce. The only way that makes any sense is if KG were to instantly retire and file his papers.

At that point the Celtics would have two options:

1.) Going to go hard for the #1 pick in the '14 draft and Andrew Wiggins.

2.) Going hard after Big Al or Bynum. Bynum is a huge risk, sure. but both these guys will get around 4 years and 60 million. With Green, Bass and Sully (and no KG) the biggest void is obviously at the 5 and despite being Rondo's buddy Josh Smith wouldn't make a lot of sense. Minny will match whatever is offered Pekovic.

Re: Should we get SOMETHING for Pierce or should we amnesty him?

    Option number 1 means:

The team must keep Rondo out (on purpose) through at least Christmas or maybe even the all-star break. Then add ZERO quality free agents with the cap space they now have (like 13m) and have a firesale of Bass, Lee and Terry to contenders at any point for low 1st rd picks and expiring contracts.

Hmmm, that is an awful season and sad end to Pierce's career, but even a pick in the top 5 of the draft might be worth it. Besides Wiggins the next 5-6 guys in the '14 draft are more talented than perhaps anyone but Noel and McLemore in this current one.

    Option number 2 means:

A team with Al or Bynum, Rondo back by Thanksgiving (at the latest) and 100% by the deadline and Sully also 100% would contend for the 4-7 seed but be in limbo, needing an all-star 20ppg scorer at the wing to really scare people. Unless Bynum is suddently a 26/13, which he may never be. He's likely a 60 game a year guy who'll give 22/11. Al is also a 22/11 guy but has some minor health concerns and major defense concerns, esp at the 5.

Definitely go foroption no. 1. It's a no brainier IMO.Amnesty pierce and let Garnet know what your plans are ( going for a quick rebuild which would involve pretty much tanking the yr ) and give him the option to either retire or waive his no trade so we can move hI'm for hopefully an expiring contract and a young prospect or a pick. Then move Lee, terry and Bass for hopefully more expiring contracts during the season. You then go into 2015 with a boat load of money to spend, A healthy Rondo, Green, AB, Sully, pick 16 this yr, Melo ( who should play ALOT Nxt yr) hopefully 3 first rounders and off we go....DO IT DANNY...grow a pair

Ok I hear you, that makes a lot of sense

Of course if we are not going to use the cap space do you trade Pierce in a deal like the one i mentioned to GS for Draymond Green, a future pick and a big expiring contract (or two if we also dump Terry or Lee)?
