    should we sign STEVE NOVAK?

this guy intrigues me. knicks are too far over the cap to bring him back along with lin. its an either/or situation. he's the odd guy out. he won't cost much and brings something we really need and appreciate.. the long ball. you never know with ray. novak will be far cheaper and brings the same skillset. in fact novak has a higher percentage for his career and is harder to guard than ray esp in the clutch. now if we can have both, thats even better. if we can get a guy like humphries to start with novak coming off the bench, even better still.

I  think he'd be a good fit though I usually don't think about next year before one our most important games of the season.

Thanks for the Beastie Boys tribute you posted in one of these forums BTW. Adam RIP

Hey I am with CC on this. He would be great in our offense.  Rondo equals open shots. Novak is an open 3 expert.  Off the bench of course.

CC your post is flawed the Knicks can bring both of them back.

You win games by scoring the most points, we've needed more offense for 3 years now!!

He'd be a great bench shooter for the right price. If you use your two 1st round picks on a big man and athletic swingman for Rondo to play with instead of using one on Lamb, then FA is where you'll get that big bench shooter. Obviously Daniels, Dooling, Pietrus, et al are not the guys to fill that role. Moore might be able to be a bench scorer, but he's not that pure outside threat you like to have off the bench. Obviously it all depends on how bad the knicks want him back, how much the rest of the league thinks he's worth, and what the C's wind up doing with Ray, but I've loved his shot since college.

for the right price as a bench shooter indeed, but it better be cheap because he can't create his own shot and might not be clutch and Miami is exposing this

Good shooter.  I like him.  Let's get him if we can.   But, you're wrong about this statement:  "in fact novak has a higher percentage for his career and is harder to guard than ray esp in the clutch ".

Are you kidding?   Did you see the Heat COMPLETELY shut down Novak where he couldn't get his shot off?  Ray gets open and gets the shot and in the 4th quarter, there still is no better pure shooter than Ray.  He doesn't create his own shot but if you put Novak in the same situations (pressure, game winners, star of the team) over his career, you think he shoots as well as Ray?   You're so wrong its not even debatable.  Add to that, as old as Ray is, he still gets the occasional drive or back door or short jumper.  Novak gets NOTHING but open 3 pointers.

Gethim as a back up but don't think he replaces Ray.

Novak is not in even in Ray's world.  Even at 37 this summer, but Novak is a guy who if close to open on the three line is a valuable asset for a team.

Keep Ray and Novak if possible.  Rondo and Bradley will break people down and one more lights out shooter from three will help this team.

    Hi,
Yes, he's a great 3pt shooter. But he's 6-10. Which brings a question: can he defend 3 and/or 4? If not - no, thank you. Unless it's for vet min for 13-15 spot on the roster.

he's a help defender like ray now. does ray shut anyone down? he's not going to be a starter. but yep as a 9th or 10th guy, y not? he's not covering threes.. more like 4s and slow or small 5s.

Why not?  He's a great shooter and can score a lot of points in a hurry.
And he's not going to cost us a lot money.

Agree with few posters saying that can he play defense??  And also why he is playing with the Knicks as his fifth teams of his NBA career?

Obviously these teams arent happy with his defense performance.

Since Boston are thin at the 4/5 spots, Boston rather to find guys who can play defense at that spot.

A 6 10 guy who can hit the 3 as well as him would be an asset to any team. If he could learn to play defense in the Celtics system and rebound he would be a great addition.

Re: should we sign STEVE NOVAK?

the fact he's 6-10 doesn't matter all that much. He's a knock-down 3 ball shooter who'll stretch the floor as a perimeter SF in limited minutes each night. That's who he is for a contender...and if used as such, would be very good. I have a feeling he's played himself into a bigger spot (and contract) with a bottom of the standings club this season though.

    Jgallag1,
6-10 does matter. Celtics are Doc's team and its mantra is Defense. If you're 6-10 you have to be able to play 4 and in a pinch cover 5, in other words, you'll be thrown to the "bar fight" in the paint. Unless, of course, you have speed and quickness to play 2 and/or 3.
