    Sniper Guards

I say we still need a legit #2 guard..some one who can really open up the lanes for our bigs..

Sully, Green, or Bass cannot operate in the lanes because they are clogged..The openings are only for a second before the help comes...Pierce has to go through three people to get to the hoop. The other teams are also playing lots of zone on us and don't have to really get out to cover the 3 pts shooters because they know they cannot sink them consistantly.

Green can't go to his Worthy like swoops because there is some one waiting for him..

And we know Rondo starts to hesitate, when he can't fake anybody out with his dipsy doodle moves...

Lee and Terry just are not scaring anybody with any consistancy!!!!

We need a Jimmer type that can sink 6 of 8 3's on a given night..

Seems like every team has at least 2 or 3 of them..

So along with a Big palooka,  Danny get us a  sharpshooter as well...

    Any thoughts or ideas.??

what ever happened to SNIPER guards like vinnie johnson who were midgets but could put it on relentlessly?  vinnie rarely hit a 3 but struck fear in everyone.  i dont' think there are any left.  maybe jeff malone was the last one?

Vinnie Johnson was as close to automatic as a player could get.  He was insane....against the Celtics anyway.

Celts were a scary team in December of 2009 and 2011. Then injuries happened.

    Too early to tell.

When they had the Schack man..they were looking pretty scary..

Celtics team has a lot of guards.. this team need's a BIG guy ..who can Post and rebound to able to let the shooter's shoot. once we have a quality big guy lee, barbosa, terry will be productive..

sorry, enlighten me...How is a big guy going to operated in the middle, when our guards are incapable of being consistant..Exactly how will they be more productive??

When a big gets double teamed, he throws it out to his guards with the hope they make their shots. That way next time down, they will hesitate on the double team. Its a pick your poison...right now, our poison is more like watered down kool aid..

Yes I agree we need a big, but i fail to see how that will make our guards more productive..

our guards have been open, but are not making them...

ben Gordon was pretty explosive guard when he was at chicago..and almost single handed beat Boston...Now at Detroit, not sure if he is still that kind of player...

This is where Ray's decline hurt the Celts most.  Doc had managed to weave together an excellent formula while Ray was effective.  Now with Rondo and the likes of AB, Lee and Barbosa, we have virtually no outside shooting from the guard spot.  Terry can shoot but he is struggling to find his rhythm.

But if we are looking for a sharp shooter that will also play top notch befense on the opposing guards, we might as well be looking for Michael Jordan.

It will be good to find a good shooting 2 but a strong 5 will go a long way towards correcting the C's spacing problem.  With a strong 5 and motion, Rondo will be able to get the ball to players effectively.  Right now, Collins is no scoring threat and teams are just out gunning the Celts.

yeah. crawford can shoot.  and so could rip hamilton for a while.  somehow this role has lost a lot of toughness over the years.  and the ones who can shoot it well now seem to lack defensive desire/skills

we got every last drop out of ray.  if you look at how we played ray, always 35+ minutes but his minutes were absolutley BRUTAL because our system was rondo stands around while ray curls five times to break free for a still usually semi-contested shot.

so what i'm saying is that ray's time here put more mileage on him than the years and minutes played might suggest.

just think about sheer minutes- at the stage of his career ray was at- when he came to green, first year at 30 mins per game is ok, then he needed to be a 28 min a game type of guy to have any longevity and to stay out of ankle surgery.

we overplayed ray A COMPLETE SEASON'S worth of minutes in the years we had him.  and the added running / pivoting / curling he had to do just to get a shot in the rondo pound the rock half court offense is amazing.  it's incalculable how much extra work that really was.  the last person to run curls like that relentlessly that i can remember was reggie miller and rip hamilton.

now jj redick.  but it's undeniably a ton of work and wear on the feet / joints
