This Lakers team is a prime example of why you don't count your chickens before they hatch. The Lakers have talent -- but their core is old and their bench is limited. (Admittedly just like the C's, I'm no hypocrite.) They have few trade chips and guys like Gasol are immovable because of his contract. I laughed when the Lakers hired D'Antoni. They hired him because of the success he had in Phoenix?! Well back then he had a younger, in his prime Nash and some decent guys who he could feed for easy baskets. In LA he has guys that want the ball and who aren't good transition players, maybe not now or never. Oh yeah, the old Lakers played better D, now they're letting up >100 PPG. Not good, and inexcusable when you have a player like Howard on your team. A lot of people said that D'Antoni wasn't the right coach, and he isn't.
This season had boom or bust written all over it. If Nash could stay healthy and facilitate for Howard, if Kobe and Howard could Mesh, if Gasol could play like the Gasol of old. If, if if. They have chemistry problems, the coach can't get his players to buy into his system, and the guy (Bynum) you traded your very good center for (Howard) wants the attention and adulation that goes along with playing in a big market but he doesn't want to earn it. Howard is meant to play in a city where the fans will love him no matter what. He should run as fast as he can to Dallas or Atlanta.
