Stephen A: Doc may still leave C's

Stephen A. didn’t lend much credence to Danny’s denial about Doc leaving: “Danny Ainge’s words, in this matter, mean nothing to be. Absolutely nothing.”

Smith asserts that if Rivers did indeed leave Boston, the Celtics would have a hard time enticing talented free agents.

“I mean no disrespect to Danny Ainge, he’s a champion as an executive ... but nobody is coming to Boston to play for him. They come to play for Doc Rivers, that’s just a fact.

True that DA can't attract top tier FA's because it is Boston and not Miami or LA but Doc is only able to attract lower tier FA's or older vets looking for an extra buck anyway, so IMO this may be a moot point. The only time top FA's wanted to come here was during the Big 3's original 2-3 year title window and now that is long gone, so DA has to go back to being 'Trader Danny' and stop relying on Doc, KG, and PP to bring in talent.

You may be right but I think it's just dumb that this crap still comes up every year. At the time Doc signed a 5 year deal, everybody thought that the he really liked working with DA, loved the city and the organization, and was committed to the rebuild. That said, did anyone think that we would have to go through this dance with Doc every year of his contract?

Granted Rondo going down was a headache he didn't envision but he got the players he wanted to replace Ray in Jet and Lee. He chose not to ask DA for a pure back-up PG and not to play Darko and he chose to manage KG's mins and play him mostly at the 5, so why is he mentally exhausted and contemplating quitting every year?

How many players signed a contract because they wanted to play for a certain GM anyway???  The GM signs the players and that is it.  The players play for a team for three major reasons.  1.) Money 2.) City 3.) Coach.  Oh and throw in a 4th Money!!!  The GM doesn't come in to the equation so Stephen A hole is talking stupid.
