Re: Team I want on the court next season

Oh would I love to see this team and you can take all the picks we have with exception of our Lottery pick this year {Parker}. Trade Green, Bradley, Bass, Oly and whoever else that needs to be included to happen.

    Point Guard: Rondo

Shooting Guard: Hayward....Yes, I know he is a 3 but I am playing him at 2. He is quick enough to do so.

    Small Forward: Jabari Parker {get lucky in the Lottery}

    Pwr Forward: Sully

    Center: Love {I know he is not a 7 footer but he and Sully would control boards and there is NOT any good 7 foot Centers playing today}

    Bench: who cares!!!!

    "Bench: who cares!!!"

    • Rondo, knee (once an acl repair always an acl repair in the psyche).
    • Hayward, hip.
    • Parker, talented but a rookie.
    • Sully: can't seem to control his temper (and stay on the court) - Perkins redux where techs hurt the cause.
    • Love: yes, not seven feet.

In '08 the Celtics bench was critical to the title.  How important were Leon, Posey, House, Tony Allen, and PJ in the playoffs, especially?  That bench paid very high dividends.

    Hump/Anthony

Not good, but better than this year

Re: Team I want on the court next season

    My team:

    Rondo, Pressey

    Bradley, Johnson, Seldon (Nets pick)

Hayward, Hood (Jeff Green pick), Wallace

    Sullinger, Olynyk

    Embiid (Celtic pick), Faverani

Trade 1: Jeff Green for an expiring & a pick

Trade 2: Brandon Bass for 2 2nd round picks and expiring

Option B: Draft Wiggins or Parker with the 2nd pick. Go for Isaiah Austin on the Jeff Green pick. Austin is as big as Embiid with much more skill, much closer player to Anthony Davis. He only has one eye, so limited vision, but he's a hard, hard worker.

     ****************

I want to redo my "next year" team:

    Rondo (12), Pressey

Bradley (6), Johnson, Seldon (Jeff Green pick)

    Hayward (9), Hood (Nets)

    Sullinger (2), Bass (7)

    Cousins (16), Favarani (2), Anthony (4)

Trade 1: Jeff Green for an expiring and a pick

Trade 2: Olynyk, Embiid, Wallace, Celtics 2015 1st for Cousins

Call me crazy, but lets say a scenario plays out where Parker is off the board and the Celtics can select Embiid and the Kings have a later pick. Would the Kings not jump at the chance to clean house with Cousins and start a new foundation of era Wiggins & Embiid in their new stadium with new owners?

On our side of things, its one legitimate Center for one huge prospect. Celtics would need to overpay for Cousins, adding a 2015 protected pick and another young player in Olynyk in addition to dumping Wallace's contract.

I think the Celtics can compete in the east with a starting 5 of Rondo, Bradley, Hayward, Sullinger, Cousins. Since this is now a contender, we keep Bass. We draft Hood and Seldon, two players who look NBA ready and could (cheaply) off the bench. We then use the MLE to sign a pair of free agent veterans to round off the bench (*cough* Pierce minimum deal *cough*)

    Ideally:

    Bledsoe
    Wiggins (Celtics pick)
    Green
    Sully
    Sanders

    Pressey
    Ben Gordon (UFA)
Wallace (You can't get rid of him easily)
    Jerami Grant/Noah Vonleh (ATL/Brooklyn's pick)
    Humphries

Chris Johnson (I'll give him a spot. He plays hard/hungry. I think Steven's loves that)
    Olynyk (more development time)

Re: Team I want on the court next season

Q: Why the heck would you trade Embiid??

    A: Great Question yo!

Because Embiid is still learning this thing called the game of basketball. Our main piece, Rondo, is on 10 levels higher than this kid coming out of his freshman year. I dont doubt the skills or work ethic, but its going to take him 2-3 years at MINIMUM to become a force in the NBA. The chances of him becoming one of the top 5 players in the league... well that's slim. Its the risk you take.

Cousins right now is still fantastically young, same age as Avery. He should be starting in the Allstar game IMO. He's posting 22 & 12. He has the most skill of any true center in the league. He can run the floor with Rondo and their P&R game would be phenominal. Cousins is reportedly growing up and starting to take on that leadership by example role.

Essentially, Cousins is much closer to an impact player, a #1 option that can help a team win a championship. I think in a new environment with Rondo & Stevens and a cast of good guy role players (Hayward, Bradley, Sullinger, Bass) Cousins will dominate. He is worth Embiid, he is worth an additional pick. He'd even be worth Sullinger, under different circumstances.

Trade 2: Olynyk, Embiid, Wallace, Celtics 2015 1st for Cousins

Very creative and bold food for thought.

The question is do you do that just for Rondo - or keep Embiid and get a new PG? and in the process save a boatload in CAP space to land quality FAs instead ???

Hey, that's a legit question. Both options are valid.

If you believe that Rondo is a key piece towards building a contender, the question boils down to do you build around the piece that you have that's ready now (PP) or do you sell on that piece and take a chance building a new core through smart draft decisions (SuperSonic style aka selling Ray for 5th pick and building around Durant)?

I think keeping Embiid and selling Rondo is more risky, but that risk is what makes it potentially so lucrative. If everything hits right, we could build a dynasty. If the reward does not pan out (busts) then we risk another drought in Boston.

So, in the end, its up to Danny. If he truly sees Olijuwon in him, then go for it. But if not, Rondo is a proven champion.
