    The Auerbach Coaching Tree

Now in its' second generation, the Red Auerbach Coaching Tree is going strong.  Part of being a great coach, as we all know, is how many proteges you produce.  Wooden, Knight, Coach K and Pitino have all had many Assistants become Head Coaches.  None can compare with Red:

Let me know if I've missed anyone, (played for or drafted by Red) and I will update it.  Title winners are in Bold:

                                              Auerbach
    Russell
    Cousy              Sanders          Sharman
    Heinsohn                          KC Jones
             Nelson

Next line - Carr, Ford, Bird, McHale, Ainge, Cowens, Silas,Westphal,Buckner, Vincent, Carlisle

    No one else comes close!!

The Fakers Never won anything until Bill Sharmen went West and showed them how. I mentioned that to Mr. Sharmen at the 40th Reunion of the 56/57 team BC High.  All of the titles the Fakers have won in LA are the reult of Red through bill Sharmen.  Add another 11 titles to Red.

Yes Bulls coach phil Jackson did a great job winning most of his titles in Chicago. it's a shame it took himlonger to get than Red did to get where he did though. He might have gotten there much quicker if he didn't go to the Lakers. Still When you figure his work as GM red has many more rings than Phil. Another poor Laker in Seocnd place.

Phil Jackson is the only NBA coach to ever have a championship ring fitted for his toe.

Red, could not even fill all of his fingers. Cool

I didn't say that - and I think Sharman only one one with the Lakers.

Hey your right but then 10 is 10 just as 11 is 11! How's that stack against 9*?

*no free agency/3pt shot/1st/2nd round playoff series/salary cap etc

    Re: The Auerbach Coaching Tree

LA stole 5 titles from MN, now they want the 6 in CHI because Phil coached there as well.  Red really has 16, as he built a champion 16 times.  He retired at 48, with 9 rings.  Took Phil two cities and until he was 64.  That's like saying Pete Rose was a better hitter than Ty Cobb because he had more hits!!

Pat Riley - 5 rings as a Laker
Phil Jackson - 5 rings as a Laker

    Red - 9 rings as a Celtic!!

Funny, because the history books list them as the Minneapolis LAKERS. You should really do your homework before posting such ignorant comments. I'm just sayin'

Maybe when Phil becomes a GM then he can build a team.

And as riding coat tails, how did he do that? he was a assistant coach with the Bull's and was promoted to head coach. and he took over a under achieving laker team that had not won anything

Red does lead Phil in 1 category. Red is responsible for more secondhand smoke deaths from smoking like a chimney where ever he wanted.
