The second rate lakers are at it again. Just like they don't have the banners to back up there claim of 16 they also can't retire a jersey correctly. Wow.

Not sure who is to blame for this, but it was an unfortunate mistake.  Poor Shaq.  Although, it was nice to see his # retired.  He certainly deserves it.  It not for Shaq, Kobe may not have won a few of those championships.

The reverse is also true if not for Kobe, Shaq may not have won all those championships

I believe that Shaq (Finals MVP during the three-peat) was the biggest (no pun intended) factor in the early titles...when Shaq left the team struggled for the next three years without him.....BUT, Kobe is an all time great and who knows if they win without him?...to be fair, at the time, the "Batman and Robin" references were in vogue...and Phil said in his book that Kobe complained about being referred to as the "sidekick" by the media...that was a big part of their feud...

Duncan and KG ware the only bigs you could have replaced Shaq with and seen LA still win titles

Kobe could have been replaced by multiple players and the Lakers would have been fine, or even better:

    Pierce

    McGrady

    Ray

    Dirk

    Iverson

    Vince Carter

Even Rip Hamilton, Sprewell, Stackhouse, 34-38 year old Reggie Miller and Allen Houston would have won titles with Shaq.

Also remember Kobe ran Eddie Jones out of town long before he ran Shaq and Phil out... so had LA had forwards like Dirk, Sheed, Brand, Antoine, Marion, Jamison, Abdur-Rahim, KMart and Peja from '00-'02... with Eddie Jones.... they would have also 3-peated and in certain cases been even better.

Shaq is the one who had a problem with Eddie Jones

Jones was the older player who couldn't stand Kobe as a person and had his ego bruised by losing his mins and stats to him, so he asked to be traded... Kobe was def more clutch and obviously the SG to build around... but had the Lakers had a forward like the premise above, to be Robin to Shaq's Batman... and Jones as the 3rd banana... LA would have been in a better position for many more years than by letting an obvious jerk like Kobe run wild and ruin a dynasty.
