not sure how any LA fan can come here and argue this.

Bruins just added a title to Boston and the NCAA just ripped a National Title for USC. not to mention the humiliation the Mavericks put on the lakers in a 4 game sweep that ended in cheap shots and a total gutless effort by the lakers. they quit just like lebron does.
In Response to Re: The Sports Hub of the Universe Laker Trolls Welcome : Let's play your game. If you say Pierce chose to rest in 2007 to improve Boston's draft position then fine. But what did the Lakers accomplish by quitting in the 2nd round of this year's playoffs? Did the Lakers improve their draft position? The Laker players QUIT because they wanted Phil Jackson to QUIT?
    Posted by Fiercest34
Simply observing that BOS has its own examples of quitting.  The Lakers had a bad series.  Boston had a bad Spring.

    So, how about them Bruins??
In Response to Re: The Sports Hub of the Universe Laker Trolls Welcome : I don't think Magic and Kareem were on the 2003 and 2008 teams.  History shows Lakers occasionally under perform, but then bounce back quickly.  As for quitting, after the Perkins trade, Boston fell from 1st to 3rd, and went 21 - 17 including playoffs.  That's 10 weeks of quitting.  Also, see Paul Pierce choosing to "rest" the final weeks of 2007 to increase Boston's draft pick position.  If he hadn't chosen to quit, maybe Boston wins some more games and gets the #10 pick instead of the #5 pick, and maybe Seattle doesn't get rid of RA for the #10 pick.  Boston's 2008 banner is partially built on Pierce quitting.  Thanks for the effort PP!!

Nope - it was injuries.  They were about 37-17 without Perk.  So, when he came back and got traded, we quit?  What about the injury to Shaq?  Not an excuse, but certainly not at full strength, like the lakers, when we lost HANDILY, to the Heat!  And, I think you had a bad playoff, not just a bad series.  An undermanned NOH team gave you a run for your money, and exposed your most glaring Fisher....oops, I mean weakness.  No doubt the lakers will bounce back.....but I can't see it next year......no expiring or retired contracts to trade, no first round pick - injury riddled 23 year old.

Celtics are in trouble, too.  But to simply say the lakers will bounce back because they are the lakers exemplifies the arrogance that starts from the top of your organization, and filters down to your entitled fans.

So honestly, red-russ, who has the better chance to get another title first, cs or Lakers? Try to put partisanship aside. And remember, early betting polls show the Lakers 2nd to Miami as the very early favorites. Cs are not even in the picture.

If LA is going to add college sports, then it's justfiable that we can also include the NCAA Hockey Championship courtesy of BC 2008 BU 2009 and BC again 2010.

Top 10 Cities With the Most Sports Championships

These cities have won the most major sports championships
By Jason Koebler…"US News & World Report"
    Posted: June 6, 2011

    #1 New York, #3 Chicago, #4 Detroit (tie with  LA), # 6 Philly, # 7 Pitts
    #s8 Green Bay & SF/Oakland & # 10 St.Louis

    2. Boston - 33 Championships

Legendary coach Red Auerbach led the Celtics to nine NBA championships in 13 seasons between 1957 and 1969, making up more than half of the team's 17 titles. Boston's teams haven't been shabby of late, either—after an 86-year drought, the Red Sox were able to shake off the "Curse of the Bambino" in 2004, winning their sixth title. They added another in 2007. The Patriots won three Super Bowls in four years between 2001 and 2005, the Celtics won the NBA finals in 2008, and the Bruins are currently trying to win their sixth Stanley Cup. The Boston Braves also won a World Series in 1914 before moving to Milwaukee, then Atlanta. Wrtten before Bruins' Championship !!!

4 (tie). Los Angeles- 22 Championships

With 16 championships, the Lakers are basketball's second-most successful team, after the Boston Celtics. But the franchise won five of those championships while playing in Minneapolis. Los Angeles has had a history of teams moving to and leaving the city—the Dodgers won one of their six championships while playing in Brooklyn, the Raiders, who spent 13 years in the City of Angels between stints in Oakland, won one Super Bowl in L.A., and the then-Los Angeles Rams won an NFL championship in 1951. The L.A. Galaxy have won two MLS titles, and the Anaheim Ducks and LosAngeles Angels of Anaheim have also won a championship each, both in the past 10 years.

By the way, I've lived in San Francisco, albeit California very different from LA (UGH!!!), for 40+ years but first 21 were in New England and roots run deep so I'm a Boston team fan first & local teams 2nd rooting for Boston when they play eachother. Local teams hate LA teams & it's gratifying in Sports Bars to see at least 75% fans rooting for Boston.

Baseball used to be my favorite sport when it lasted 2 hours. That was when a pitcher was measured by how many complete games he had and hit for himself, which is part of the strategy. Now you have a specialist for everything. It makes about as much sense in basketball if a designated free throw shooter or a separate defensive team that comes in when the other team has the ball. That was when baseball players looked like baseball players and not steroid freaks. Next to hockey, baseball is totally boring.

I never said 2010 was tainted, you have me confused with some other posters.  Each title is won on its' own merit.......no excuses.  When you beat a team four times, you are the better team....SO, in 2010, the lakers were the best, no excuses, and in 2008, the Celtics were the best, no excuses!

    Got it?

You are probably right about baseball.  The major professional TEAM sports in the United States are baseball, football, basketball and hockey, not in any particular order.  Soccer is gaining popularity in the United States, but still isn't considered on the same level as the other four.  All of the other sports, golf, tennis, etc are not team sports, but individual sports.

Baseball was the national pastime but Pro football has passed it since the late 60's, early 70's.
