Tony Allen, Best Perimeter defender in the NBA???

Naturally, I'm ecstatic over the Celtics victory yesterday.  But happy too to see former Celtics do well.  Perkins got a tip in to put the Thunder up 16 but it was another former Celtic that enabled the Grizzlies to chip away & come back. In my opinion Tony Allen is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league &  deserves to be on the defensive 1st team NBA. And as an added feature, he can drive to the basket too and gives his team 7-10 pts per game. I was very happy with our Jeff Green's defense on LeBron & Wade last night & taller too he is a better offensive threat too but it'd be nice to have Allen too on LeBron & Wade. To think we let him go for about $10 million over 3 years. He was a Kobe killer in 2008.

His dogged defense on Spurs star Manu Ginobili was was a key to Memphis' first-round upset and he was dealing with a strained calf, sore knee and a sore ankle yet played 25-30 minutes.  In yesterday's game, Durant, the NBA's leading scorer during the regular season with over 30 per game, finished with 22 points, the fewest he's scored this postseason. Durant was largely ineffective in the fourth quarter and overtime with Allen harassing every shot.  Durant simply wasn't Durant, and Allen had a lot to do with it.  I mean Durant put up 24 shots, which means he got his usual touches.  The difference was that many of those shots were contested without fouling. Durant attempted just one free throw in 48 minutes. Durant missed eight of 10 shots in the fourth quarter and overtime.

As a Celtic fan, I hope we win and are in the finals. I hope too that the Lakers lose & do so in 4 games as a team will come back someday from 0-3 in the NBA as our Red Sox did in baseball and I still fear this Laker team. Bynum & Odom are playing well & if Gasol picks up his game too & Artest now returning to add some defense, they can with Kobe always dangerous, be the team to come back from 0-3. With Spurs having sputtered, I felt that with Westbrook, Durant & Perkins to contest the Lakers big 3 in the paint, the Thunder was the team who could beat them. Last year w/o Perkins it took LA 7 games to win that series. But, if the Lakers are gone, I like to root for underdogs so will hope the Grizzlies win and I'll feel good for Tony Alllen too !!!

Great post.   TA is definitely one of the reasons that Memphis is playing so well this year.   If was still with the Celtics he would have been a great help during the playoffs this year.

Ummmm....TA is good, not great.  He is a specialist that is one dimensional.  Could he have helped here, sure.  We need offense and Green gives us that.  Green's defense haven't been that bad.  It is Ray Allen that has been getting crossed over and ankles broken.

The past is the past and THEY(POSY, TA, HOUSE, etc) AREN'T WALKING THROUGH THOSE DOORS AGAIN!!!!!!!

yes. The reason is that with Boston he wasn't needed for scoring. He was able to specialize in being a perimeter defender.

One thing I've noticed about TA's game flourishing in Memphis is that he has brought that celtics passing with him to memphis. He can be sloppy at times, but has shown improved vision as far as feeding z-bo and guys like arthur and mayo on the break. Sad tony couldn't be with us, but I'm def glad that he's gotten recognition for what he does do, and that's lockdown perimeter defense.

How often was Tony healthy? God, it seemed like every year he got hurt and was out for long periods of time. We only got little peeks at a time of how good he could really be.
