Training Camp Opens - What to Expect

Training Camp opened with media day, but now they can get down to business.

Here's the roster from the C's site:

    http://www.nba.com/celtics/roster/2010-2011-roster.html

13 players including Harangoddy and Erden.  What happened to those camp invitees?  Any word on any others?

Seems like camp is short this year.

Oliver was waived, so I guess this list is those with guarantees

Seems the D-League has made it easier to sign players so that is why they have more invites

Re: Training Camp Opens - What to Expect

Its got to be tough to get more players into camp for at least two reasons; 1 bottom tier guys that are either hoping to sign on at least one more contract or trying to get an initial contract aren't going to get an abundance of opportunities to latch on to an NBA team so they will be reluctant to take a chance on trying to crack onto a veteran laden team. The 2nd reason being .even if they do take camp invites to get exposure for bids on foreign teams or D league teams we are a team with 5 new players,2 players with less than 1/2 a season with the team and missing one starter so their chances of getting preseason PT is less than most teams have to offer so we might get a couple of guys just wanting a paycheck for a couple of weeks but Doc and DA probably want to solidify and refine the players we will most likely be going forward with

Lasme could be interesting. At 6"8 and 220 lbs, he's got the same build as James Posey. Former D. League defensive player of the year is intriguing also. It wouldn't hurt to have a small forward defensive specialist on the C's roster. He's also 28 years old so he's not a kid and has some defensive savy. Pierce's backup doesn't have to be a scorer. There are plenty of good scorers on the C's bench.

It's going to be hard to make this team. This should be a fun year.

    Amen to that, my friend.

That's kind of another way of saying "We got us an incredibly awesome team."

Should be real fun and I can't wait.

What to Expect? Any player who wears a Celtic uniform expects nothing less the being World Champs. When the Celtic uniform goes on you play to win the Finals. If you don't leave the uniform at the door and go home. Enough said. What to Expect?

You're right about camp invitees are going to have a difficult time making the Celtic's team. There's a slight chance one invitee might make the team.

boy do i wish we were a couple of #2's lighter and had childress on the team.  if not for the duration of sheed's contract extending one year beyond the CBA, it likely could have happened.  the hawks can't afford a bag of peanuts right now since they signed joe johnson to all nba and then some money.

at some point this season, we need to locate a stopper 3 to spell pierce or we're doomed not to compete well against lebron and kobe.

Acie, what up, Man, this don't sound like you.  You got a hair caught crosswise or something?

We got a great team just as it stands.  You gotta have faith, la dee da.

Com'on, Man, get on the feel-good bandwagon.  There will be ample time for that other stuff when we hit our first rough patch.

3 players in the D league now is a good change. It's starting to get to be a little bit more like a triple A team in baseball.

Re: Training Camp Opens - What to Expect

The list of players invited to camp on non Guarenteed contracts include A point guard named Smith from S.Indiana University, Steve Lasme and Tony Gaffney from U-Mass both play the forward positions, Charles Johnson who is an ex-LSU Center( that would make three ex-LSU centers vying for jobs on the Celtics) and Mario West a SF who last played for the ATL Hawks. As for Von Wafer and Delonte West they will be fighting it out for a spot on the roster with all of the aforementioned players. These guys have spots barring injury or trades: PP,KG,RA,BBD,RR,Shaq,JON,Quise,LIL' Nate, Bradley,Harangody,Erdan and Perkins once he returns. Playing time might become an issue so Doc's job this year will be allocating the minutes equally amongst all of the Veterans he has on this roster while finding minutes for the rookies to learn with. On paper this team looks stacked but on paper doesn't win championships.

It is still very strange seeing Shaq in a C's uniform. He's exactly what this team needs though. I'm expecting huge rebounding and FT advantages from this team

With respect to the new D league allocation I understand that a team can alloate up to 3 players (that were actually cut from the team)  I am not certain if this in additon to the two players that can be assigned

A total of 3 players can be sent down to the D. league for each NBA team. It's an increase of 1 from last season.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Training Camp Opens - What to Expect : I don't think that's the intention here ... Pro players have contracts with the NBA team and can still send 2 players back and forth. This rule allows the last three cuts to sign NBDL contracts with the pro teams affiliate. Thus you can retain three players of interest to be developed there while maintaining your right to send two players down as needed. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/09/25/allocation-rule-change-strengthens-nba-d-league-affiliate-bond/

I'm glad I was wrong. This adds a total of 5 players that can be sent to the D.League per team.

    You got room for me?

This will be a special year.  I trusted Danny.  And now I will become a Doc faithful.  And you know what, there will be no rebuilding in 2 years.  Danny magic will see to that.
