Re: Update: Darko is a Celtic

excellent move. has to be looked at in the context of what they had available cap-wise and what their biggest needs still were. darko is not going to come in and blow anyone away or become a vastly different player, but he has a couple of legitimate skills that this team needs. namely, he can guard legit nba big men, recound with reasonable efficiency, and block shots. they were missing a big boidy and he fits the bill. he's not going to give you much on the offensive end of the court, but he is very capable of playing 10-15 minutes per night on a contending team. this also allows them to take it easy with melo (and even sullinger) and ease them into the system as they see fit.

Darko's been totally trashed/excoriated as being one of Dudder's favorites who went bust.

    Now he's embraced at BDC???

You've got to be kidding me.

    Big freakin deal.

    Where's Dudder?

    Pud

It isn't complicated.  Darko as a back up equals good.  Darko as a starter equals bad.

I dont know how ANYONE can complain about this move for the VET MIN. If darko is your 3rd string center your in good shape. He is essentially equal to or slightly better version of steimsma at a lower price. Ill take that. Very good move by da.

    snakeoil,

Darko was the 2nd pick in the lebron james draft. Melo was the 3rd pick that year. So in that context darko is a HUGE BUST.  That is all totally irrelevant. We signed him for a vet min deal for one year to be a 3rd string center. In that context its a GREAT PICKUP with no risk.

That is what I said.  Darko was a huge bust as a starter, Darko is a good big off the bench. The two things don't have anything to do with each other at this point.

Actually Pud prefers to have Ryan Hollins on the roster.

Cool!  By the time Darko and Collins finish using their 12 fouls on Dwight, he will need another back surgery.

    Career stats - Darko - 27 years old - 1st round pick - 18 mins per game - 6 pts - 4 rebounds - 1.3 blocks

    Career stats - Jordan Hill - 25 years old - first round pick - 14 mins per game - 5 pts - 4 rebounds - .6 blocks

I wanted us to go after Jordan Hill this off-season, but this is a good pickup for us, too!!

Just give us that, and we'll be fine!!!

Who do you think has the better upside?

Re: Update: Darko is a Celtic

Darko has not been a star in the NBA, but he will prove to be a decent back up center for a year or so.  He will not block shots like Steimsma, but he will score more points and is signed for a cheaper salary.  If he learns from Garnett, he will probably become a decent defensive center by mid season.

At least this signing is clearly directed at the lack of size and depth that the Celts showed on paper all summer long.  None of the guys the Celtics have been listing as centers behind Garnett are really centers.  Wilcox is probably too small on most nights, Collins may be too old and fragile most nights and Melo can only be considered as too inexperienced for most of the 2012-13 season.

Darko now takes the pressure off of Wilcox and Collins at the center spot and maybe even off Garnett to some degree if he (Darko) turns out to be a little better than advertised.

Re: Update: Darko is a Celtic

You really can't stop Darkop you can only hope to contain him. Seriously he is still 27 and is a servicable big man, not a #2 pick overall but a decent big man. He will play ahead of Collins. He turned down a lot more money in Europe to play in the NBA maybe he has something to prove and has improved his game, that would be great if he came back being much better than he was.
