[QUOTE]Shortened season, tough schedule ahead, and no home court advantage if we make the playoffs. If we can't beat a Mavs team that lost 3 key players from their championship team last season then we're just a .500 team at best. I mean it's time to stop making excuses, we have to face reality.

That's the silliest thing I ever read.  It's a long season and we've lots of time to pull it together.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: We're Done if We Don't Win Tonight : Are you sure? Only 66 games this season.  We have a superstar PF playing like a SG. Our PG can't shoot from beyond 18 feet and is only 56% from the FT line. Our starting SG is only good on offense. And as a team the Celts are only averaging 37.6 rebounds per game, that's 2nd to the last in the NBA.

No training camp and lots of new pieces.  At least pretend to give the team time to gel before you write it off. :-)

    Number6,
Nobody wants the Celtics to be written off but if we don't see them bounce back and dominate a decent team at home soon you will have an answer that will forecast this season.  We have to make the playoffs to show we are being underestimated.

In the games we have won against the worst teams in the NBA we have not won by a margin of more than ten points.  Have you seen how lopsided many of the games have been this year?  We have not been one of those winning teams even against the Wizards, Pistons and Nets.

    Lots of new pieces?
Boston has their same starting 5 back and now have a better 6th man.
The new people are bench players.

Remember, the most difficult part of our schedule has yet to come.

thats true. im of the belief that we are still getting acclimated and are talented enough to beat any team in the nba on any given night..just need to put it all together. we SHOULD be able to beat this team tonite tho..at home on national tv after days of rest..if we cant get up for this one then i guess your right..theres something wrong.

You have some points but don't let DFURY hear you say that...ha!

    Tonight should be interesting because...
-I would like to see if the 2nd unit gels with a few more practices in them
-If Ray comes back stronger from the flu and how PP is with a couple more days off for his heel
-If Pietrus (unlike JO) can carry his 'best man in practice' award to the game
-If KG stays on the block and for how long
-If Wilcox was serious about stepping up his game and earning his contract
-And how long will Doc let Bradley run the point before he gives the reigns to Moore

Wait till we're 20 games into the season to determine such things, if we're not on pace to be the 3rd/4th seed then changes need to occur.

Pierce isn't 100% and Peitrus hasn't played yet

Agree that Rondo not hitting his FT's is unacceptable

Yeah, we will be about 40-42 games into the season by the March 15th trade deadline, so DA should have enough info by then on how the Clipper's pick will look and whether to blow-up the big 3 and deal their expiring contracts.

I get the feeling Ray knows that if he can just make it past this year's trade deadline again then chances are he will re-sign and finish his career with the C's which is why he is playing his butt of to start the season.

It's to early to say we are done this season. Gotta give this team a chance, but your right, 56% from the line is unacceptable and horrid. Larry Bird would slap Rondo in the face if he got the chance. You've got to give them time though, the Celtics are a better team this year but with no Pierce for half of the games so far we are a .500 team. We will win our division and be in the playoffs once again, I just don't know what will happen when we get there.

That prediction is no more or less relevant than the one you made about the Celts being the #2 seed in the east by Feb. How's that working out for ya?

We're done if Pierce can't get over his blister injury, and continues to have more games where he looks like an 80 year old man and shoots 3 for 17!!

The thing is, going 500 will probably get us into the last seed in the playoffs.  If we're going to beat miami, might as well catch them early, play someone like atlanta in the second round, then hope for the best against chicago in the third round.  I have a feeling the c's will be content to limp into the final spot or two, then try to flip the switch.

There are web sites where the statistical geeks go way way into the stats.  For example: the Hollinger rating and the site at 82games.com   More or less the Hollinger rating tells us what the players are producing in total, minus what the individual players' opponent is doing totally back at him (total offense and total defense).  82games.com gets even more complicated with their rating.  The long and the short of it is that PP, Rondo and RA are still playing very well.  KG is doing okay but has slipped, so far.  I wouldn't push the panic button yet.  Danny may yet pull off a good move or two.

If they improve and get in shape, and are playing their best ball of the season at the end, they'll have a chance to make a run.  Maybe upset a team or two if Rondo plays spectacular every night in the playoffs.  That's a tall order, but the season is so early.  Some things are bound to shake up the landscape before it's all said and done.

Wish Pierce came into camp in shape.  Doc's comment about his team being out of shape was not about the young guys.

Re: We're Done if We Don't Win Tonight

C'mon Fierce, you're better than this. This a communist contrarian type of overreaction post. The season is NOT in the balance tonight. The Mavs have their own set of problems.

Look, with a black hole at the center position (thanks Danny!) we have no right to expect better than a 5th seed in the playoffs. We're only 1.5 games out of the 5th seed. Season ends tonight, we're in the playoffs. That's as much as this aging team can hope for is to make it in, hopefully 5 to 6 seed.

You forgot to list Pierce and whether he can stay healthy and play well on the list of problems. Also, singling out Rondo is totally absurd, without him we have maybe 2 wins. You're starting to get like dud and pud - he gets a triple double and the team wins and you still have some nits to pick. Your critique of Rondo is accurate but that's more of a postseason concern, he's plenty good enough for the regular season which is what we're talking about right now. For us to advance in the postseason, yes, he's going to have to get better at the line.

People talk about how good our bench is...fine. But our starting unit ain't special. It's an older team beyond its three year window. The teams in the 9th and 10th seed in the east are baad teams. We'll be in the playoffs.

But yeah, it would be great to win tonight. Just one game though.

Nobody has them winning it all anyway. I don't how one game means they are done. So if they win they are back? This thread is stupid.
