What can the C's learn from the Mavs?

Because it was a real pleasure to see how Dallas operated in the 4th quarters of this series... whether they were down or they were up... how they stayed poised and closed out games...

The C's have just as much talent as the Mavs, if not more.  But what the Mavs showed us this series was just the opposite of what we saw from the C's not just in the playoffs but for much of the 2nd half of the season.

It's wonderful to stay poised when your 3's are dropping, right?

Learn to play a GOOD zone defense against the Heat.

Rebounds= Rings. Tyson was getting key boards, marion was boarding, dirk, kidd. You can't win if you can't rebound.

It helped that the Heat were severely undersized in the front court.

Have five players on the court who can make shots...actually, the Celtics knew this and won the Champsionship this way (KG, Posey, PP, Ray, Ehouse) closing games in 2008. That was before Doc "players coach" decided Rondo was untouchable...spread the floor with shooters, duh, winning (for the Mavericks)

C's can learn 1) Talented bigs and rebounding win Championships.  'Member how dominant KG and Perk were in '08
    2) One needs talented Role players who excel at playing within themselves.  We had this before the trade with players like marquis
    3) Bench scoring is a must, something the celtics have lacked since james posey days
    4) Depth and health make a big difference (nothing we could do, but by the end of this year we were shallow and unhealthy)
    5) It sure helps if the shots are following.

Have a bench made up of players rather than other people's castoffs (Murphy, Sasha, Arroyo, Krstic).

Dallas won cause they didn't have Rondo, so did everyone else in the playoff who didn't have Rondo cause it actually turns out everything is Rondo's fault.  Cause blaming the kid who tore his elbow and then came out and played his heart out and did all he could to lead the team one-armed is really the best thing to do.  All you Rondo haters should really just go play in traffic.    Rondo is our point guard and a damn good one.  So, politely, shut the hell up.  Thank you.

Re: What can the C's learn from the Mavs?

The Mavs didn't really reign threes until game 6 and truth be told, they had a much stronger bench than the Celts. Plus, like the JKidd said post game "we knew they were over aggressive on defense and they would eventually get tired", so it was the Mavs that just finally wore down the Heat. Good for them!

Re: What can the C's learn from the Mavs?

The key was in fact having quality players on the bench and on the floor. Cuban is a billionaire owner who can afford to acquire players (not cast offs) from teams unwilling to pay the huge salaries that are part of the NBA.

Heywood, Butler, and Stevenson from the Wizards. These are quality players that new owners did not want to pay. If you have the resources, you can stack your team to effectively wear down the opposition.

Miami has a foundation following the same formula that the Lakers and the Celtics implemented as well.

Miami also needs a better coach. It will be interesring to watch how the next NBA season unfolds.

Re: What can the C's learn from the Mavs?

There are a lot of things the Cs can learn from the Mavs:

    1. If your lineups don't work, change them (and start JJ Barea who played poorly over Stevenson who played good).
    2. It is ok to bang. Brian Cardinal in game 6 played thougher than the entire C rooster in the series.
    3. You can still improve as a veteran. Kidd is a great set shooter now and Dirk can drive to the hoop.
    4. You need to spread the floor in the 4th quarter.
    5. It is ok to put some pressure on the ball handler of your opponent before the half court.

    What can the Cs learn?

Get another white man to be the super star on the team (like Bird, Cowens, Cousy and Havlicek).

    Dirk was great for Dallas.

Who said white men can't play basketball?
