Some many ramifications with that decision. Besides being the better player, he would have helped them immediately, as opposed to having to wait for Dino. And there's the issue that he helped the Lakers with his play and then REALLY helped them by being sent to Charlotte for the #7 pick (Kobe) and clearing salary for them to sign Shaq. -

Where to start.. lots of errors in this one.. Dino was a 2nd round pick, #40, vlade was a late 1st, #26.. kobe was the 13th pick, not the 7th.. we can spend all day on what ifs for many scenarios.. but you can't change the past, only look forward to the future.. -

You are correct. I didn't check my dates properly. 1989 was the Michael Smith draft. Divac would have been better, but then again anyone else would have been better. -

Vlade was a better player than Dino, but Dino was also a very good player. Check his career stats. I believe by memory that he averaged 17 points and 10 rebs per game in his final season before blowing his knee out.
That entire Yougoslavian championship team was loaded with great talent. Dino, Vlade, Drazen Petrovich and Toni Kukoch. -

Celtics should have drafted Tim Hardaway in that draft... moot point on Divac.
They should have traded McHale for Detlef Schrempf and a #1 pick the previous February... which would have then let them draft Shawn Kemp or Divac anyhow. -

If the C's had Divac, does that mean Kobe would have played for the C's!!? DId Charlotte comb the league looking for a thrillling player like Divac to trade KObe for!! Only the Lakers get players they really don't deserve on a consistent basis. Divac was only traded for Kobe because Kobe pitched a full fledged chidish tantrum when he didn't go to the big, cosmopolitan media center (surprise, surprise). Charlotte would have been forced to take some other patheticly unfair compensation if Divac was hurt. -

What if Pitino hadn't traded the #8 pick for Vitaly Potapenko and the Celtics had drafted Shawn Marion one pick ahead of Phoenix !
And what if Danny Fortson didn't get hurt 5 seconds after we got him....And what if Chauncey stayed and became Rondo and we kept Joe Johnson instead of Kedrick Brown ???
