Bass and Barbosa for Shawn Marion, that's my definition of a minor move.

The Mavs will go after Dwight in the summer. They need all the cap space they can get. By trading Marion and his 9m for Bass' 6.45m, they recover a significant amount of cap space.

Not many teams will want Marion because of his age, turns 34 in May. But the Celtics need him for his defense and rebounding.

    That would help

Marion has always been a plus rebounder.  He would be a big upgrade on Bass.  Then again pretty much any starting power forward in the NBA would be a big upgrade on Bass.

He is also a forward who plays like Pierce, Garnett and Terry. He is the opposite of Bass.

Ok, is this doable? It might be a good move.

Fierce - who has the early termination option in his contract (2013), the team or player?

The player. That's why no one wants Marion because is due to get 9m next season and it has a 15% trade kicker. Only a team like the Celtics would want Marion.

Thanks for the info! SM is definitely an upgrade over BB!

Very doable because very few teams would want to have Marion's contract.

The question is are the Celts willing to spend that kind of money for basically a 2-year rental?

A win win for the C's! Get out of BBs contract and get a serviceable PF for the remainder of the season! The C's would also have an expiring contract to dangle in front of other teams next year!

"Bass and Barbosa for Shawn Marion, that's my definition of a minor move."

Finally a reasonable trade scenario. Thanks Fierce...agree that fits the definition of a minor move and is likely exactly the kind of thing Ainge is trying to finagle. :)
