In 1987 the Lakers acquired Mychal Thompson in a trade mid-February. That move was critical because it helped the Lakers win a championship in June.

Jabbar was already 40 years old at that time. By getting Thompson, it made life easier for Kareem.

All I can say is if Thompson was NOT a Laker in that 1987 Finals, that series would have gone to a Game 7.

 

This season KG is still good enough to help the Celtics get to the Finals. But adding a guy like Mychal Thompson would not only make KG's life easier, it would also ensure the Celtics will go on another deep run in the playoffs.

What's important is the Celtics get another big. The Celts can't go into the playoffs with Bass as the starting PF.

The Celtics are playing well. Guys like Lee and Green have turned it around since the new year. So no need for a major trade.

But the Hawks just suspended Josh Smith for conduct detrimental to the team. I would trade Bass, Lee, Collins, and a draft pick or picks for Josh Smith.

All we need is a Larry Bird......
