Why Georgetown? for Goodwill Games against China

Why would the NCAA send Georgetown to represent the USA in the Goodwill games against China. Georgetown ?? Really?  The most disliked team in College basketball the last 30 years. The only team in America with a coach who openly admitted never drafting a single white player in 25 years,John Thompson. The current coach is Thompson's son John Jr who recruits the same type of players.Players who will probably never graduate college.

This Goodwill game became a brawl as Georgetown played it's usual physical, grabbing, fouling, dirty defensive style game.

China 's players never backed down and the Good will games became an ugly eyesore for NCAA basketball.

The NCAA should have sent a team like Duke , Butler or North Carolina who play clean, and are well coached. Sending Georgetown was an embarrassment to US college basketball  and a disgrace to the NCAA program.

Lets hope the NBA dosn't send the thug Celtics to play any goodwill games across the ocean, I can see Garnett chasing some international player with a chair in his hands !

I think it is very important for the Chinese to see that in America you can get into a really good school without having to be able to read or write.... its no wonder they are concerned about the country's ability to pay its debts....

No win situation for Georgetown. If they don't stand up for themselves, they would be called wimps. When they do, you see what the results are.

Any team would be irate given the calls and the aggressive style of play by the Chinese.

Watch the altercation.  It happened between Jason Clark and a Chinese player.  At that point, the Chinese Players (3 of them) jumped Clark.  So, what was Georgetown to do - stand there and watch 3 layers beat up their guard or try to defend them.   Its the Chinese players who chose to have the whole team attack G'town.

Regardless of whether you like G'town or you don't.....they had no chance to do anything but defend themselves.  Clark shouldn't have got in the alternation, but the rest was on the Chinese players, coach, and officials.

Totally embarrassed.  Why in the world is Georgetown representing the best of our student athletes?  I can't imagine that the Georgetown players weren't briefed on the likelyhood of some one sided officiating during the course of their experience.  So the excuse that foul calls were bizarre and that the whole scene was unfair isn't an excuse for throwing the first punch.  It's not an excuse regardless.  Sure it was probably chippy, that's what happens when an inferior team is trying extra hard sometimes.  Even if the Bayi Rockets were acting like punks as it seems they are, no excuse.  It could only be damaging to the purpose of why these college teams are going to China.  Instead, what should have been an obscure game lumped in with others as part of a succesful cultural exchange between two countries that happen to make up the worlds largest bilateral trade agreement, it's what folks will remeber.  The coach should have mandated against any type of action in preparation of their trip.  Isn't part of their job about turning adolescents in to adults.  To lose his composure like Clark did is a loss of face, which might not seem like a big deal to some but in chinese culture it is.  It makes us look bad.  Thanks Georgetown.

Sounds like you're preparing to do some writing for your upcoming book "My Struggle", or as they say in Munich in the roaring 30's, "Mein Kampf".

    Heil oldschool,

Not if that book is about the Celtics signing your "International (white) players" heroes Pittsnoggle and Gansey on a 10 year no-cut contract. NOT a final solution.

    Take care Steve
